Anyone removed rear seatbelts 09 gen 4 wagon?

Postby alfabruce » Fri Mar 11, 2016 4:28 pm

Hi all,

We have a situation where both of the rear seat belts have decided not to retract within a few weeks of each other.

We have used full kids safety seats and booster seats for the last few years and possibly that has something to do with it.

Has anyone else had this problem. Im amazed that both have given up at almost the same time so im thinking it must be a common problem.

Is there a way to fix this?

We got a quote to replace both for $1200 which seems absolutely ridiculous but we obviously dont want to take chances with the kids safety.

Any ideas would be much appreciated on how to remove the rear belts and maybe give them a clean etc and maybe that will fix the problem.

Cheers

Tim

I'd start by looking at the factory service manual so you can follow the correct procedure or possibly troubleshooting process, otherwise the path of least resistance would be to lift up the lower rear seat and side bolsters and take a peek.

I wouldn't trust the dealer any more than myself. :)
The belt assy shouldn't need anything other than untensioning and resetting.

Im the same I trust my self and only myself

. I do shudder when someone has No Fucking Idea about safety things on cars like how do I fix my brakes and expects a forum to guide them through the
repair .The forum advice could well be 100% correct but the the recipient with NFI may do things totally wrong remember he/she has NFI in the first place .

Im not a Vet either I take my dog to the Vet I dont give it a Panodol and hope its ok 8)

On the other hand, the procedures in the FSM are written for a fairly basic comprehension level - just don't trust all the torque specs! (Some are way too high)

BTW never believe or take any notice of OEM recommendations to torque settings the engineers that tested and recommend these setting haven't got the same technical and or experience as a forum member P M S L

The same as all of us, attention, recognition, a sense of connection and above all, respect.
Is that too much to ask?
