DIY Guard Rolling Machine

Postby BillyCorgi » Sat Feb 06, 2016 5:53 pm

Okay, I need to roll my front guards to fit the 225/45/18 boots cleanly under the guards.
So, being who I am I have made a guard rolling machine

The only new part in the urethane wheel, everything is scrap metal items that accumulated in the "I can use that later" collection.
Usual business, bolts onto the wheel hub, adjustable, extendable arm, adjustable wheel angle, screw adjustment of wheel position.

The plan is to make this available to forum members for Sydney members to hire over the week-end.
$25.00 for the weekend with $100.00 security deposit.

There is a plan to build a second unit to be kept with HardwareBob for Melbourne members to hire over the week-end.
Same deal.

Have not tried rear guards yet, however the technology is the same?
The rear guard has a plastic moulding that may need to be removed during rolling or permanently.
Cheers!

Simple to use.....

(1) Bolt the Bracket to the wheel hub (remove the brake caliper)

(2) Bolt the Cradle into the Bracket

(3) Set the Roller angle and Roller height

Good work as always - don't forget the heat gun so you don't crack the paint.

Great work!
It's a great idea to heat up the guards before proceeding, eg park in the sun, electric blanket, make a box to fit over the guard and warm up with a heat gun :)

Update on Melbourne Unit.

The metal is cut and sitting on the welding bench awaiting fabrication.
The adjusting bolts are presently being made and were on the lathe last night.
Picking up the M12 and M10 screws today.
Should be finished this week.
HardwareBob will organise freight to Melbourne.

Pictures to come.

This is good work for the forum!
Hope everyone appreciates one now being available.

Even with a heat gun, one of my rears still cracked. Just filled it with touch up paint straight away, no prob since.

Most of that is covered in Cert I, apart from any welding :P
I just started stick, so might have to try this project myself :good:

Well, progress has been made on the DIY Guard Rolling Machine for the Melbourne Chapter.
This unit will be held by HardwareBob.

All the component parts have been prepared and are ready for the next step. WELDING.
The picture contains ALL of the parts that will be assembled into the GRM.

The only new components are the Urethane Roller Wheel, and the bright new shiny M12 and M10 screws.
All other parts have come from ye-old-bits-of-steel collection.
You will see where all the parts go when the photos of the assembly process are posted.

So now we have two!
One for Synney, the other for Mel-bun
I will leave it to you to figure out where all the parts went, if you are so interested.
