PIN Code Immobiliser - disconnecting battery

Postby Muzzy66 » Mon Jan 25, 2016 8:08 am

Hi all,

I didn't really know which section to post this in, but I've got a Liberty B4 with the PIN Code immobiliser, and for some time I've been wanting to replace the crappy head unit that was put in there by the previous owner.

What I'm worried about is, if I disconnect the battery for say 30-60 mins while I replace the head unit, will it reset the immobiliser and force me to take it back to Subaru to be reset with the master code? I've look across forums myself and have read mixed opinions on this - some people say it will, others say it's fine. I called the local Subaru service place and even they seemed unsure - they said it probably would reset the code, but couldn't give a definite answer.

I only get weekends off work, so I don't want to disconnect the battery, then get stuck with no car to get me to work the next day! Is there anyone here who has had to do audio work on a late 90's / early 2000's B4 or STI, who can confirm what the reality is?

P.s.
Oh and before anybody mentions it (somebody always seems to!) removing the immobiliser isn't really an option, since I want to keep the car as stock as possible and don't want to take risks with insurance.

Can you just remove the fuse for the head-unit instead of disconnecting the battery? Or is the same fuse used for the stereo and immobiliser?

Not too sure to be honest, but I guess it might be an option to consider.
