Front inner cv boots Gen3

Postby Rich67 » Sat Oct 24, 2015 4:31 pm

I am going to be changing my front inner cv boots on my Gen3 next weekend. I dont have the tool to tighten the metal clamps so was thinking of using some big zip ties. Has anyone done this before with any negative results? I have used them before when I changed the cv boots on a Pajero and they held fine. TIA

I have had very good success using a large screwdriver and sturdy vice grip pliers to tighten the metal clamps.

The process is basically.....
(1) Get the metal band on to wrap around the boot twice.
(2) Fold over the first set of metal tabs
(3) Use the Vice grips to hold the end of the metal band, hold the folded tabs with the end of the screw driver and slide the metal band through the folded tabs.
(4) PULL HARD.
(5) Holding the end of the metal strap fold the metal band back over itself over the folded metal tabs in (2)
(6) With the metal band bent back over itself, fold down the second set of tabs to hold the metal band in place
(7) Bend the excess metal band backwards and forwards until it weakens and breaks off.
(8) Tap the folded metal band and the folded tabs with a rubber mallet to seat everything into place.
