Help! Security ID needed

Postby dru86 » Thu Oct 15, 2015 11:59 am

Hi,

Long time lurker but this is the first thing I need help with. I have a 2005 gen4 3.0L Liberty and am trying to program in a 2nd key. The car only came with one key when I bought it.

I bought an uncut key that was supposedly genuine and am trying to get the transponder registered. Took it to Subaru in Canberra but they were unable to do it.

I now bought an aftermarket SSM and need the 5 digit security ID for my car to register the key. Subaru here refuses to give me the security ID for my car.

I then tried Subaru Australia but they also refuse to give the ID to me saying that it is a copyright issue!? How is this a copyright issue!? It comes on the metal tag that comes with the car keys, why would you put it on a tag with the keys if you don't want people to know what it is! Their suggestion was to buy a key through the dealer for $400+ and get it programmed.

Is anyone who works at Subaru able to get me my security code (I can provide all the ID documentation if needed)?

Thanks

You need to have the new immobiliser transponder chip programmed with the car's immobiliser and ECU.
If the new spare key also has remote keyless entry module, this also requires programming with the car. This is a separate process.
All keys and remote entry modules must be reregistered with the car at the same time.

I've got a SSM so can do the programming myself. Just need my security ID code so can register the transponder into the immobilizer. Already have the teaching code which is 3781. If anyone ever needs the codes this is the list.

Impreza

2008-2011: 3781

Good luck!
Here is the process for obtaining the codes for Subaru America (as an example).

That's actually where I found the teaching codes. Happy to pay but it appears that only Subaru service/parts managers and locksmiths are able to get the codes from that link. The dealer here in Canberra who tried and couldn't do my car has the code, but doesn't want to hand it over.

Also already programmed the keyless entry. Found these instructions posted up by paggaz. Worked a treat. So much easier than the instructions for the US models.

1. TRANSMITTER REGISTRATION
NOTE:
• A maximum of three transmitters can be registered
for each individual vehicle.
• When replacing the transmitter (key), registration
to immobilizer system is also necessary.
1) Remove the side sill cover at driver’s side, then
connect the registration connectors at front pillar
lower section.
2) Unlock the door lock.
3) Press any button of the transmitter twice while
pressing driver’s door lock switch to unlock side to
be registered.
4) The door lock will automatically lock and unlock
in sequence. This indicates the completion of transmitter
registration for first transmitter.
5) If the registration of second and third transmitter
is now to be carried out, repeat the procedure 3)
and 4).
6) Disconnect the registration connectors after the
completion of all registration operations. After confirming
the operation of door lock using newly registered
transmitter(s), reinstall the side sill cover at
driver’s side.

I ended up getting the code out of Subaru after writing a letter to them with references to the Consumer and Competition Act. There is a section in there with rights to free title. I still can not see why they had to make it so difficult and refused to hand over the Security ID, especially when you get it with the car originally. If anyone wants copy of my letter shoot me a PM.

Programmed the immobiliser using the Subaru Select Monitor, and I now have a working spare key!
