Changing HID Bulb

Postby vitagen » Sat Aug 23, 2008 12:59 pm

Hey guys

With the MY07 Lib GT Spec B, comes factory with HIDs, however I think the colour is about 4300k? I had 6000k ones in my Corolla before and they seem nicer, is it possible to buy replacement bulbs for it? Since its projector lights I was thinking of going 8000k.

Thanks

Yes, you can buy either brand name or generic replacement bulbs for your factory HID's on eBay or at a local auto accessory shop. I know Leo (hks180) sells the conversion kits, but not sure if he does bulbs only as well. You might want to PM him to find out.

I think the factory ones are either 5700k or even 5300k. You need the D2S type. Otherwise some of the newer ones come in D2C which will fit as well.

Haha. Planning out the mods even before you pick up! You'll fit in just fine here. :D

Congrats on getting a new ride! Hopefully you'll be kind enough to post pics of it.

I got a cheapie set off eBay for $30, while a brand name set was $150.

Bad as in beating small children with a stick bad? Then no, not bad at all. But that would make for a hilarious commercial. Where you drive the car straight from the dealership to the garage and replace everything before anything else happens.

A word of warning about the cheapie bulbs. Check on the bulb, socket, and wiring every so often, especially within the first 2 weeks of usage.

I've seen a few bulbs that were badly manufactured and ended up overheating while turned on, and melted the plastic socket and the wiring.

Hey vitagen. Good luck picking up your new car.

I'm in Canning Vale too and have done the HKS and resonator. Let me know if you need a hand.

I'm looking at changing HID bulbs too - where'd you get yours ??

Cheers

Hmm, I might try and find something a little higher on the quality scale :D

$10 HID bulbs sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Yeah no probs, happy to give you a hand with the resonator. The process itself is fairly easy. I've done it twice, once for the res, and again for the HKS filter a week or so later, but the twisting around and getting the airbox in and out might cause a few grazed knuckles.

To be honest, I didn't notice stuff all sound difference, until I replaced the standard filter with the HKS. But then again I'd only driven it four times before I removed it

You're welcome to have a listen, of course. Drop me a PM.

Cheers
