MY09 Premium Pod Filter

Postby fruitcone » Wed Oct 07, 2015 2:50 pm

Hi all,

I'm on my P1's and I wanted to just play around and do some basic mods for my car. One of these was changing the air filter to a pod filter.

I popped the hood and played around with the air filter in the engine bay.

I found that there was a MAF sensor attached to the air filter box. This meant that I couldn't install the pod filter without getting rid of the MAF sensor which was crucial to my cars performance. I was wondering if anyone had any advice to how I would approach this problem?

I've been researching and apparently I need a tube/pipe with an MAF sensor adapter/housing on it which I could unscrew the current one, replace the pipe then screw the MAF sensor back on. By doing so I can attach my pod filter to the end of the new pipe.

Would anybody have any idea how I would go about finding this new pipe with the MAF sensor housing on it? Or would I fabricate my own?

Below is a link of the exact model of my car:

Please find attached a sample image of my engine bay. As you can see, the MAF sensor is attached to the pipe which is moulded to the air filter box.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all,

Play around with the MAF sensor and its position and its housing at your peril.

Get it wrong and you have completely thrown out the tune calibration for the car.

Generally, the Subaru engineers get the air intake side pretty right.

First try suspension, brakes and some good tyres and get the car handling and stopping well.

If you want the engine to "sing" better, contact Matt at KiDo_Tuning and get an E85 flex fuel tune.
Matt will get the best out of the engine without you having to take a risk with pod filters and the like.

Matt put an E85 tune on No.2 Son's MY09 2.5i and Junior loves it!

Thanks for the advice.

I'll leave the pod filter to later to do.

I'll start of with some more basic mods.

Thanks heaps!

UPDATE:

Just replaced all 4 brakes with the Bendix Ultra Premium range of brake pads.

Cost me around $200 for all 8 pads, Nulon dot 4 fluid and a few tools to make it easier.

Thinking maybe HEL braided brake lines next and a new set of tyres then some new DBA rotors.

How much would the E85 Flex tune and supporting mods cost around? New fuel lines etc.

Thanks,

Contact Matt at KiDo_Tuning regarding the E85 Flex Fuel tune for your vehicle.
memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=7166

Gen4 Fuel Lines are compatible for E85.
You will need to change the fuel pump for an E85 fully compatible unit and change the fuel filter at the same time.
Allow about $200.00 for new pump and Filter(s) if you DIY.

So after doing a lot of digging I found this post.

viewtopic.php?t=18309

I am really keen on supercharging my car like Nick has done. Along with the supporting mods of new tyres, brakes etc.

What does everyone think about this?

Thanks,

You can't have an aftermarket supercharger on your P's

Get a tune, a noisy exhaust and then spend your hard earned on brakes and suspension
