Oil change gen 5 lib gt

Postby AAA » Wed Oct 07, 2015 6:46 am

Hey guys,

Looking at doing am oil change on my 2010 liberty gt. Unfortunately the manual is so badly written it doesn't say how much oil is needed or how to perform the change. Its almost like they don't want you to be able to do it. I assume you just get underneath and drain oil amd then undo the filter by hand.

How much oil does the 2.5L turbo take? Are there any tricks to it?

If you can undo the filter by hand, you go for it :)
You'll need a filter removal tool, and it needs to be a straight-on one because you can't get to the sides, due to the exhaust manifold.
I think the fill is like 4-4.5L? The dipstick is your friend.

I havent ever done mine but a quick google:

(US Legacy but meh, same same.)

I'm guessing the GT is the same but easier as the manifolds come together further back to feed turbo so leave the oil filter more in the open:

(again US Legacy - scroll down for under engine pic of GT)

Oil amount required should be in the manual somewhere, prob same as Gen IV, 5 litre container should be enough.

I always fill the new filter with fresh oil before installing, saves "dry" start next time.

Just fyi i spoke to subaru. They said with an oil filter the gen 5 turbo takes 4.3L. Oil is 5w30-40 and can be semi and fully synthetic.
