how long to wait for turning off the engine

Postby benTSH » Mon Sep 07, 2015 6:26 am

Hi,

Here is a picture which show the temp when I'm parking and I'm wondering if I can turn off the engine ( a 3.0R with 255000 km ) without waiting or would it be better to wait a little the indicator go lower or when the fan stop for example ?

Thanks by advance

Shouldn't be that high ever unless you're putting it under some serious sustained load let alone when you're driving into your driveway.

Yeah I'd be looking at your cooling system - thermostat/radiator, possible leaks.

Get a Subaru Select Monitor or an OBD2 scan meter connected and check the coolant temperature reported from the ECU.
Determine whether you have a Temperature Gauge calibration issue or whether you definitely do have a high coolant temperature issue.

This temp is only when I'm parking without moving.

When I drive the temps indicator is horizontaly or a little cold even at high speed  .

But agree with you I'm going to get an OBD scanner; there are so much product to connect via WIFI or Bluetooth and so much softwares than I don't know which one to buy

For you from which temp in °C begin to be suspect for health of the engine ?

The OBD scan give us oil temp and pressure too ? and which are the good values ?

Thanks again for helping me

check your fans are working correctly.
The 3.o litres have two speed fans.
Are you getting to high speed?

If your engine is colder at high speeds, that indicates the possibility of a thermostat in need of replacement. I'm not sure what sort of thermostat those cars run, but my last car (an old pulsar) had a faulty thermostat which had ceased open, which stopped the engine from getting up to heat. That said, however, the engine never got that hot. Check your fans and coolant. If the problem persists, you may need a new thermostat.

Also, you should scan that Check Engine Light. That may also give some sort of indication towards what the cooling issue is.

I agree that it seems a bit excessive to get that hot. If you end up scanning with an obd tool, seeing over 110-115C would worry me.

Sadly obd tools are unlikely to get you oil pressure or temp. I know on the ej25 they don't. Not sure about the h6.

Sure you're not leaking coolant somewhere? Heater hoses?

Also with that many km on the engine, I'd suspect a head gasket could be due to fail if not already changed.

There are no sensors, the ECU doesn't know what they are so it can't possibly export them. This is why I'm adding an oil pressure/temp sensory in my car.
