3rd gen liberty gearbox and diff questions

Postby _the_mechanic » Tue Aug 25, 2015 8:31 am

I have a 3rd gen rev-e liberty, i have just picked up a 99 gc8 gearbox (munched 2nd gear) and BJ lsd, my questions are.

1• can i just simply swap the rear diff center and use my original crown gear?

2• does that diff housing bolt directly into the 3rd gen liberty rear end?

3• is the viscus coupling the same between the 2 gearboxes?

4•how hard is 2nd gear to replace in the 99 wrx gearbox?

5• when converting to rwd, do the front cv's get completely removed?or do i need to leave the stub in?

I know the questions cover a couple of different scenarios , im just trying to figure out what avenue to go down.

Considdering this.
1• welding my original viscus coupling to convert to rear wheel drive

2• running gc8 gearbox and diff (possibly with the rwd conversion also

If the viscus couplings are the same, Keeping the spare viscus coupler to convert it back to awd when needed.

These are my current options
