It would also be nice to see some fitting instructions, especially as the website says it is fully adjustable?

Looks like the whole thing is threaded so I assume the adjustability is in that.

Here is a photo off the net of what is supposed to be a stock STI 6MT shift lever.
http://i.imgur.com/7OSYsST.jpgIt looks like the standard ball at the lever base is castrated off and the new ball assembly installed.
The distance between the centre of the spherical ball and the barrel for the shift linkage will affect the shift throw length.

Sometimes the colour changes from black paint finish to gold-chromate passivate finish.

BEWARE!
The Perrin site says the Perrin article is not compatible with the Spec-B

Thanks for that. I'll contact them first. Strangely enough the bushing that this replaces has the same OEM part number in the 3.0R and the STI Impreza

Okay,
So I have a standard 5MT shift lever in my parts pile and I have been playing around with it.
The 5MT shifter has a 20mm diameter nylon ball on the end of the lever, secured with a roll-pin, much the same as the photo of the standard STI 6MT lever as posted above.
The roll-pin is easy to push out with a punch and the nylon ball drops off.
The mating ball socket in the shifter mechanism is secured in place by a circlip, and it is also easily removed.
Once the ball is removed from the lever the Perrin of torque solution short shifter adaptor slides in the shaft and secured in place by the three grub screws.
The distance between the centre of the ball and the center of the bushes will adjust the shifter throw length.
The standard centre distance is about 53.0mm.
so the throw reduction calculations look like this.....
Standard throw 53.0mm
minus 10% 58.9mm
minus 20% 66.3mm
minus 30% 75.7mm
minus 40% 88.3mm
eventually, the shifter rod will hit the transmission tunnel metalwork
