Transmission cooler line

Hi guys
I am wanting to add a transmission cooler to my 08 GT-B. I am going to run it in series with the existing cooler.
I dont want to run from the new cooler to the radiator and then back to transmission as the new cooler will be more efficient than the temp of the radiator. So i want to run from transmission to radiator to cooler back to transmission.
I just do not know which line is the return line.
Can anyone help me. Which arrow (top or bottom) is the return to the transmission.

Where did you source your cooler from? Ive heard of ppl getting ones from repco for 120 bucks

Yeah I will do up a little how to when i get around to it as there i couldn't find anything definitive about it. Surprised me actually.
I haven't bought yet, but either the one from supercheap or the one from Ebay. Likely the later as it is appears smaller and takes up less condenser/radiator space

Well after a chat to helpful parts interpreter at suburu today i found out the top line goes to the oil filter then down to the radiator cooler then return to transmission
This makes the top arrow the return line.

So youll go from rubber hose to new cooler then from cooler back to hardline?
And this is the top arrow in your picture?

Yep. from radiator cooler to new cooler to pipe bact to transmission

Couldn't you just use the return hose from the oem cooler?

????? Thats what i am doing. The oem cooler is in the radiator

I did this mod on my old wagon. If you want to check which line is definitely the feed line, disconnect at gearbox end, stick both ends into two separate empty clean plastic bottles. Crank over the engine and shut off quickly. Sit both bottles in a oil drain tray to catch any oil that leaks. If you are servicing the transmission and wish to do a full flush you can use the same technique to suck up the new oil while pumping out the old oil until it runs clean. You use a bit of extra oil but flushes it out from the torque converter. Good luck.

When I did the oil cooler on my old outback, I ran the oil though the new cooler first before the radiator cooler. This allows quicker warm up of the transmission, cooler oil flowing into the radiator takes heat out of the engine radiator and makes sure the oil going back to the transmission isnt too cool. If the transmission is running hotter than it should, excess heat will be expelled in the new radiator before it gets to the radiator heat exchanger

It is probably a much of a muchness. I have had mine in (the other way) for a few years now without issue. The transmission performs better when cold in my experience so I am not sure the tranny needs to be warmed up as quickly as possible. Once at operating temperature your transmission oil will always be hotter than your radiator and given the radiator is a very efficient heat exchanger I thought it made more sense to shed excess heat to the radiator first and then pass through the additional cooler to get it as cool as possible back into the transmission. As I do have a large torque converter (stally) I find the pump takes longer to bring up the pressure on initial starting. This results in a momentary delay of being able to transfer torque to the driveline.
