What FPR?

Postby legacydan » Thu Apr 23, 2015 11:55 pm

Im still on the standard blue side feed injectors which i believe are about 500cc. When i get tuned i want to make sure i have enough fuel for myJDM 2 liter twinscroll td05-20g. I have read i can get away with the stock injectors and just throw in an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Would that be enough to support that turbo safely on 95 octane fuel?

What FPR would you guys recommend and can i install it and drive as normal off boost until i get it to the tuner?

Thanks

Dan

Thread Revival!

Im in the market for an adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator also. Looking to follow Matt's advice and bump up the rail pressure and scale up the stock injectors. What is everyone using and what should I be looking for in a FPR?
AEM make one and sell for around the $175 mark. The Tomei one is around $300 from memory.. Perrin make a nice one to suit subaru..

There's 4 main things to look for in an FPR:
Overall fuel flow/hp headroom...

Fuel rate reference ratio: look for a 1:1 rising rate FPR...

Fuel/injector pulse damping capability, if any... Eg a Sard has less than say a TS800, its related to the size of the diaphragm, iirc. If required dampers can be added to fuel rails or lines...

Number of fuel return ports, eg single return is good for a serial fuel line setup, dual allows both return lines in a parallel setup to return directly to the FPR, eliminating one Y join in the fuel lines...

Other considerations include mounting brackets for ease of install and an extra port for a pressure gauge or sender.

For a basic addon to the stock fuel system a Tomei should suffice.

Cheers for that BBBenny, any suggestions on where to get the Tomei? I don't hear back from PSR I've tried twice..
I'm looking at the turbosmart as well. I need an adjustable IWG for my 440xt also.. Looking for a one stop shop hopefully.

Running stock FPR with 200KW+ ATW. . But I have larger injectors (DW850) and pump. You don't want to go larger injectors?

I can scale the stock ones up to 660cc and running a harder fuel pressure will back this up. Advise from KiDo_Tuning. I've got a 65c pump waiting to go in. Looking for a limit of around 220-230kw. My setup will make more however I don't need more at this stage. My pistons in the new sti short block will be my weak point. Hoping to get a few years out of them and then go forged and balanced rotating assembly. But not yet. It's a grocery getter ;)

Hard to put a figure on it but I'd recommend working your way up to that power level.
Keep a soft wg spring so you can failsafe back to 9psi or less when required.
Max out in S# at around 15psi and enjoy the spool of the BB turbo.

You've got the dial to run the car smooth and torquey, brisk or hectic, use it so you don't get bored and want moar.
Failsafes and supporting mods like flexfuel sensors, water sprays and water/meth might help but can add complication.
IMHO ej255 needs a big soft envelope of headroom to safely operate in.
Especially the parts bin my08, which was influenced by the release of the GR STi and GFC.

Turn down for what?
Ringlands, bearings, popped hoses, etc.

SSDD :P
What's the 257 out of? You need a member profile in "post your mods" section :)

Got one started mate. I would add a link but I'm mainly on the iPad lately and can't figure it out..
It's just a new STI shorty I got while doing the heads. But did head studs during the build so I'd be confident to run a max of 18psi on this engine. It's currently out of control and default at 18 pound now. So I'm carefully watching my boost gauge and can't use full throttle yet..

I'll send you a message Matt KiDo_Tuning.. If your still available at the end of August I might cruise up to you for some dyno time.. Im just not going to get a chance to go to sydney this month.

Ok: I'd recommend the turbosmart fpr1200.
Dual return ports, gives you room to grow with the build.
Having said that, others are doing fine with Tomei etc.
