Enter Diagnostic Mode

Hi guys,

Ive got check engine light and cruise control flashing on a 2005 Liberty GT.

Ive found a bit of info on getting the error code but I cant get the full process down.

1) So I need to enter diagnostic mode by connecting some cables with green connectors together? Are they on the drivers or passengers side footwell?

2) Then I need to connect a OBD2 reader, my mate has a tactrix cable which I think I can use, but where is the OBD2 port?

Any help would be great.

Refer to Engine Section 2 of factory workshop manual

The diagnostic connection port is located in the drivers foot-well area above the accelerator pedal on a panel under the dash.
It is a D Shaped 16 pin connector. Take a look.

With a VagCom cable and FreeSSM you may read the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC).

The Green TEST connectors are located in the passenger foot-well area.
These do not need to be connected to read and reset DTCs.

You don't need to be in diagnostic mode to read the error codes btw, any ODB2 reader will do it anytime the ecu is powered.

So i connected my ODB reader, got the code - p0031 H02S Heater control circuit low. Ive seen this error quite a bit on the forums so I assume the front Oxygen/airflow sensor needs to be replaced?

However, while fiddling around I decided to disconnect the battery, once I reconnected it and took it for a 10min drive, the check engine and the cruise control werent flashing anymore, will this come back eventually?

Yes, it will, you need to replace your O2 sensor
