Fix Dash Rattle

Postby rambaldi » Thu Nov 06, 2014 7:11 pm

I've got a 2006 Liberty 3.0R and a rattle has begun to develop on the passenger side dash up near where that little "button" thing is on the dash. If I push down on it I can make it rattle with my bare hand. What's the best way to get under there and fix the rattle?

That button is a light sensor for the climate control system to sense the sun load.

Good to know about that little "button".

I've circled the area that rattles when I drive. It's been getting worse over the past month or so and hope that there's a relatively easy way to stop it from rattling over bumps.

I have the same issue. I haven't had time to fix it yet, but other people have. This helped me (although there it seems to be on the other side of the car):

Link: Annoying 05 Wagon Dash Rattle/squeak!

Not a very detailed thread, but the two important posts are:

Mine comes from the drivers side a pillar where it meets the dash at the windscreen

I had this exact same noise from the same spot. I got a thin strip of black rubber and pushed it between where the dash meets the a pillar and it stopped. Cant see it either so it was a win win.

EDIT: Pulling the pillar trim off is fairly easy. That gave me access to the area where the above guy put a rubber strip. But I haven't had a chance to do it properly yet. My first quick attempt made no difference - but that was only under the pillar, not between the dash and pillar. Let me know how you go, it seems that a lot of Libertys (both pre and post facelift) have this issue. Would be good to get more detailed info on what exactly needs to be done.

Thanks to bigbadbenny for telling me that the US LGT forum made a 3D Printed Dash Rattle stopper. As they say "The dash rattle stopper is a rather inelegant solution but it works. It is a small piece of plastic that gets crammed between dash and window just to the right of the VIN tag"

They're $5 for a set of various sizes (not sure about postage to Aus though). Group Buy anyone? :)
