Hi guys,

I've managed to lose BOTH my keys within two weeks of buying my 03 Liberty wagon... Done a fair bit of research, and I think I've figured out the way to get myself back in...

I just need some help - does anybody work at Subaru, and can get me my key cut code from my VIN? I would be forever grateful!

I've ordered a key from eBay (genuine, from a written off car, same key, with brand new blade) so if I have the code, I can get it cut at the local locksmiths, get into the car, and then I'm 95% sure I have the correct programming sequence to reprogram the remote to the ECU.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Ordered new Genuine Subaru key from eBay - $105.
Paid Subaru for Key and Immobiliser codes, $37.50
Sorted out key cutting - $39.

Found spare key as soon as I got home in a plastic shopping bag in the driveway with an air freshener and a supercheap auto catalogue.

I guess I'll take that as a win!

Well done. That's a good price for a genuine key. I've heard that subaru charge upwards of $400 for a key.
How did you cut and reprogram the new key?

Yeah that right, I went to the service department and they said about $440-450 for a brand new key cut and programmed.

As I didn't have my unique key code I had to pay Subaru to look uo the details for me, that way I can take my blank key to any big name lock smith and they can cut one to suit your car with their computer cut laser machines.

I am going to have a go at programming it my self, using a sequence I found o kine, however if that doesn't work, I'll have to take it to Subaru...

If I can do it, I will have spent about $185 total.
If subaru has to program, probably about $250 total.
Still better than $440!

When I bought my car it came with one key and that key had no remote pad. I bought a second hand remote pad and a new key from ebay. I took both keys to Subaru to get them programmed and they told me the chip was missing from the new key so they could only program the original one and didn't charge me.
I remembered that I took it apart at my parents place and the chip must have fallen out there. I thought there's $175 down the drain as the new key is now useless. I went pack to my parents and sifted through their vacuum bag hoping it was there, and it was. So lucky. I went back to Subaru and they reprogrammed both keys for nothing.

Wow, lucky! The guy seemed to think it would be around $80 just to do the programming after I've done all the running around.

I've received the key but haven't got it cut / programmed yet as I found my spare, and I have other things to spend money on. But I'll update with my experiences when I do!
