Hey All
I have recently installed a cobb sts 6mt and then some LED reverse lights
Somewhere along the way my rev lights and reverse camera stopped working it would occasional come on and lights would flicker but now I cant get anything. My headunit turns black as though it senses the reverse is selected but no picture
The lights and rev cam unit are both getting around 8volts. I have tried adjusting the shifter to no avail and also checking fuses and along the wiring but cant find anything as of yet and so I am here in search of some advice
I am unable to locate or find via forums where the reverse gear selector sensor is incase that has come loose or become dirty but I am unsure of why 8volts is still available
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated
Cheers
Brunsy

Nope same voltage and no rev cam.
Rev cam has been installed for nearly 2 years without issue until recently when rev lights were also playing up
I feel as though installing cobb sts has disturbed the rev sensor somehow but I dont know what im looking for. Soon as I get home I will put stock globes back in and report back

Your reverse switch isn't engaging properly

How would this be rectified? I tried adjusting the shifter both height and throw and loosened the rev lockout cable and badically started again am unsure where the switch is located. Inside the gear box?

Six speed Spec B manual boxes are renowned for faulty reversing light switches

I read a post on LGT about this, iirc the contacts can be resprung or cleaned.
I'll see if I can google it and or study the FSM and opposed forces for info as my switch was playing up recently too

There was a thread on this subject floating around in 2012 (seems so long ago!)
From what I remember, the 6sp boxes are renowned for it.
The reverse switch sensor wears away over time and you can either replace it via Subaru (apparently $90 for a dealer to do it) or get subaru to add in a few washers and temporarily fix the problem (again, apparently $60 for a dealer to do it)
I know a few of us Sydney members with pre face 3RB's have had our reverse lights stop working, but none of us have had them fixed yet

Thanks for the info
I have to get some work done off subaru anyway so I'll pack an extra pack of lube and a thicker wooden spoon to bite on

Get them to strap you to someone while they are at it, just so you can't run away...

Get them to give you a strap on so you can violate someone while they are at it
Sounds fair

Im still having issues with the reverse lights engaging
I have the stock globes back in which seem to work more consistently but still not all the time which is getting annoying. Thing is I dont wanna spend money on a new reverse sensor incase this does nothing to fix the issue. I have seen diagrams of where the sensor is but thus far havent put it up on a hoist to investigate further if anyone has seen or found a walkthrough or knows if its simple then please post away
Cheers
The main reason im paranoid is 90% of the drivers here got their licenses out of a weet-bix box and oneday someone will rearend me due to not watching or just being an idiot

Working on the theory that the reverse lights are activated via a switch, not a sensor, I would connect a voltmeter across both terminals of the switch with the trans in rev, ignition on and the switch connected.
If you are losing more than about 0.5v (with normal globes fitted to provide a normal load) across the switch contacts, then the switch is your problem.

Yeah I need to investigate further up on the hoist. Am hoping the trans doesn't have to be shifted too much to get a spanner onto the switch if needed
