How do I remove the dual mass flywheel Torx50+

Postby Kez_r » Wed May 21, 2014 10:01 pm

Hi guys,

Recently had the clutch go on my 01 gen3 liberty. I removed the box to see I have a DMF (dual mass flywheel). I've purchased the SMF (single/solid mass flywheel) conversion kit ($827) but am stuck trying to remove the dmf. Firstly the holes didn't line up with the bolt heads, so after 20 mins on the angle grinder I've removed the front action and now have access to the bolts.
To cut a long story short, I've researched that something called a Torx50+ (not normal torx50) is required. Can anyone advise where to purchase this tool? I've tried the usual places with no success. Is it called something different here? The other sites were American. From what I've read using a normal t50 will more than likely round the bolt heads. It's like using a ph screwdriver on a pz screw.

I had to buy a set of Torx bits with 3/8" drive from Bunnings.
Now got a complete set.
Cost me $19.00 something.

Its Torx Plus 50 or tp50

I have one which cost me about 20 odd, I bought the driver and the 1/2 in drive adaptor threw my local tool shop

Most tool shops I asked gave me a blank look when I asked and had to point it out in a book.

Before you try and undo them give them a good hit with a drift to break the lock tite
