Modifying bonnet scoop

Hey guys, as you may know I have the CF attachment on my bonnet scoop.

This adds about 5mm in height overall, and makes it a little bit fatter.

My question is: How do I mould it all together and possibly make the height of the lip higher? Do I stick wood on the peak then fibreglass that or?

I don't know if I should get sikaflex to stick it down, fiberglass to make the peak higher, and then body filler to mould it all together, before sanding it all smooth, then get a panel shop to paint.

If anyone has any tips on small fibreglassing, using body filler, and sticking it down it would be great.

And also, where to get the stuff from thats not a ripoff.

Basically i want more the look of the rex scoop, without going to that extreme

Thanks in advance.

Will post pics once I do it.

The ARC scoop isn't too bad compared to something like the Cyper R scoop (it's a bit too Rexy like). However I've always liked the one from K2 Gear. I think it's big enough without looking too bulky or grotesque.

I know it's not the answer to your question but just wondering if you've seen the K2's yet.

I have been eyeing off the K2 bonnet scoops for a while but they are so damn expensive. $650 for the one with carbon on it unpainted not including delivery ! The std one is still $400 + as well.

Yeah I have seen them and IMO they look shit.

They are so big, like squashing a fibreglass basketball onto your bonnet, just doesn't suit the car.

I want something a little more unobtrusive.

I may just bodyfiller the one I have

Haha, and you went with the ARC scoop? Sorry man, but to me that looks like a flared nostril. I prefer something angled backward to give the car an appearance of flow. I wish they had something that would enlarge the opening by lowering from the bottom!

It looks like a goldfish feeding more than a nostril flaring.

I really try to not sound negative on this forum, but quite simply why would you want to modify the scoop on our gen 4's????? It's one of the parts of the car that looks so smooth understated and well crafted. Until I saw this thread I really didn't consider that it would be a part that others may look to mod. I'm sure that you can get a mod to look good if you really concentate on getting it right, but it smacks of changing for the sake dosn't it??

If you want to go there, you can use fibreglass to get stuctural rigitity but you can't get that smooth. There is a product that fibre Glass international sells that is called micro (bead?)somthing or other (I was using it 10 yrs ago and my memory is so-so) that works like a body filler but it is much softer thus killing a lot of the time to sand and work... Use that to get the shape over the glass, then use resin to seal and spray putty to smooth to a finnish that you can undercoat and paint. In my time making plugs to create a mould in glass from I can tell you that this is a really hard job to not get that 'wavy' finish on.... I recon that no matter what you use it wold be likely that the finished product will look rather ameture no matter how may hours you put into it. Then look at the first part of this post for my opinion...
I'll look further into the product i mentioned earlier if you think it is helpfull.
Sorry to nay say.

Thanks for the opinions guys.

A forum is just that, a forum for opinions positive and negative, but I won't have a cry like a lot of people do

I think I will just mould my ARC soop, as the look is only different very subtle, but nice.

Do it Michael! I'd be interested to see how it turns out!

And you're right, a forum is about throwing ideas and opinions out in the open, both negative and positive. But it would be boring if everything was positive!

Now just leave me alone as I sit in the corner to cry a bit....

From what I know, the problem with CF is that it's fibrous, and if you paint it, the fibres will slowly absorb the paint.
It's happened on my ARC hood scoop, it came with a matte finish so I got my panelbeater to clearcoat it - they did it twice, and after a few months it's starting to bubble slightly.
