Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone here has installed paddle shifters in their vehicle. If so, is it a big and costly job, or is it possible?
I was thinking of using an 08 GT or 3.0R wheel.

Paddle shifters are part of the steering column, not the wheel.

I'm pretty sure facelift auto Spec.B got the paddle shift stock?

All 3.0 and turbos automatics got it as stock (on facelift models).

I think what Jiyujin wants to do is install the paddles onto his 2.5i or similar. I'm not sure how to do it, though.

Works Bell do a kit but you need to have some form of steering wheel shift to start with. It's designed for Gen 3 early Gen 4 with shift buttons on the wheel.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Yes, would like to see if it's possible to fit it into my 07 2.5i wagon if the cost is not too prohibitive.

Paddle Shifters work with the TCU for the 5AT box.
Not sure how the Paddle Shifters would interface with the 4AT TCU?

Suggest doing lots of research in the Workshop manuals for the MY04 listed on this site plus the MY09 manual I sent you to see how the impulses from the standard console shifters and the paddle shifters connected into the respective TCUs.

Done it before. You need the whole steering column surround and paddle shifter mechanism from a wreck or buy new from Japanparts.com then wiring loom connects into the wiring for the gear lever + & - to work.

Quite a number of Forester guys have done it to their 4EATs, one of these may be what Matt's referring to?

Was being done before S Edition or STi 5EAT Imprezas on the Liberty. Imprezas/Forester were a bit late to the paddle shift party. 07 LGT got paddle shift

It is a good thread for the conversion though

Yeah but the last few comments about it being done on on a Lib are the NA 4EATs, hence my ref to the FXTs, also only 4EATs.

Is it still the case, you need the whole column (and basically car by the sounds of it ) for the 4EAT? The FXT guys have just bought that kit from J-land and it's basically PnP...

All the paddel shift does is interface to the + and - on the gear lever sports shift. The 5EAT paddle shift in the LGT works on the 2.5i 4EAT, same as S Edition works on the FXT 4EAT etc

So assuming this then Matt, if the car already has the (IMO) posy buttons on the steering wheel, wiring is already there and it's just a matter of making the actuator of the signal up on the steering column work from flappy paddles instead of buttons???? Right?
