Quietining Pod?

Hey guys, as you know I have the Apexi Power Intake pod.

Currently it is shielded to the engine with the silver backed foam to stop the heat from the engine.

I want to shut it up a bit, and possibly create some sort of box, or stick the pod in a stock box, or bend some metal to make a cheap box.

My main thing is I want to try to do it myself, not be too hard and not cost much.

I just would like it a little quieter, so I hear the turbo spool more, and not so much of the sucking air.

I don't want it to affect my performance to much, as I don't want to get it retuned again

Any help would be appreciaated, and prices too?

Quieter you say? What would you say to a stock box with a HKS panel filter, minus the res box?

Heh-heh. Otherwise you can opt for the Blitz pod filter with the CF cover box. Of course that's tres tres expensive.

Not really hard mate to DIY, any good sheet metal supplier can cut and bend anything you want and would not cost much. Make a template from card board and masking tape and then pass it on to them, they then can reverse engineer it in sheet metal.

The parts which cost you the most money would be the type of material cost and if you want a certain surface finsih...powdercoated etc etc.

The best materials for shield or semi sealed box would be Al, cause you could use a thin sheet and bend some tight profiles, stainless would required a thickner sheet and also more effort in bending and shaping due to having a memory, best used for air tight sealed box.

Remember a thin gauge sheet would be best as it does not retain heat as much as a thin one.

Made a few of these in the past, I use to have access to magna bender before made the job a lot easier.

cheers

Cheers for the replys guys.

I don't want to go back to the stock airbox if I can help it, I like the pod and seems very free flowing.

I may try to have a go at the box, and make up a template.

Will post it up when I get the chance

I take it you dont have the bender anymore?
