5x100 to 5x114.3 Conversion

Postby chop sticks » Fri Aug 16, 2013 10:33 am

Hi, i was contemplating if i should do it or not but a few things i wanted to ask first was if anyone has done it to their Liberty GT and if so how hard was the process? I'm just having a hard time finding wheels with a 5x100 pattern and 5x114.3 seems to be everywhere

There are spacers you can buy that change the PCD, however you'll hear a lot of negativity for that.

Otherwise I think I know of only 1 person that has put STI hubs on as they are 114.3 (or whatever it is). Also I'm to understand the hubs on a Tribeca are 114.3.

Someone else can comment on how difficult/easy that conversion would be

Front's are easy-ish, if you want to spend alot of money.
Rears are a whole lot of shit. There is a big thread on legacygt about machining the trailing arms to fit the bigger hubs/bearings etc etc.

But as above said, just get some PCD changing spacers and be done with it - you'll need 25mm (1") wide or you'll have to grind/chop you stock studs to fit or you need wheels with the recess' in the back of the spokes to accommodate the extra length.

Why do you want 114.3 anyways? Different/cheaper wheels?

Thanks for the great feedback, ill start looking for some now. I'm able to get a set of 18x9 work meisters from a mate and he had them on his evo 8 so i thought i'd try get them on the liberty some how

I want 114.3 so bad! So much choice of wheels! 5x100 is so limited in style then further limited in offset in the styles that ARE available. Lame move subaru

You need a R180 rear diff(with matching ratio to your other diffs), driveshafts, the 5x114.3 hubs, discs, handbrake assembly, front roll centres, the ends that bolt onto the hub from your steering arms and 05-07 sti front struts with your strut tops. To my knowledge anyway.
And of course new wheels....

You might as well change to a 6MT while your at it. :P

If I had too much money, id do it. But when it adds up, that's a hell lot of money just for wheels. Selecting wheels and getting them made with a custom PCD would end up being cheaper.

Best advice in this thread so far.

OP, keep this in mind. The wheels are 18x9 and (being off an evo 8) they will have an offset in the 30's. adding a conversion spacer of around 15mm will drop the offset to being in the low teens.

Good luck fitting them to your car :)

Hot wheels though!

I tried that exact plan once. Evo wheels on my outback. 25mm adapters the wheels stuck so far out of the gaurd it wouldnt of been possible to camber them far enough to get them back in there.

As for 5x114 hubs. On boost at revseby has around 6 sets of the my06 Sti hubs in stock at the moment. Not sure how much stuff around they are to fit though.

Going from stock offsets (55mm) to 47mm (Gmax Defiant 18x7.5), I can detect a small loss of directional stability. If you go way down in offset, it will tramline like mad and be very unpleasant to drive, especially in a straight line.

Wheel alignment with a bit of toe in should fix that? Assuming you don't have bushes falling apart :P

I've changed between +55 to +48 about 4 times now and never noticed any difference...

when i had the Silvia i changed from 4 to 5. the front i changed all together to 32gtr however the rears i used an engineering mob in Brisbane who re-drilled the existing hubs to 5 stud for under $100 for the pair. The car ran many Friday night practice nights and had its fair share of qr drift days without any issues at all.

Id say there would be alot of engineering workshops in and around Melbourne that could help out

Hope this helps

There is a 15mm 100-114.3 adaptor available here in Japan. This means you could run 18x8.5 STi rims at a +40 offset. This would be a good option for those looking for a more aggressive fit but want to use factory rims. It is illegal though and would not get through roadside or blue/pink slip inspections.
