Hi everyone,
Want to know if there was an easier way to remove the throttle body on a Gen 4 GT.
Looking to give it a good clean and only way I can see of getting it out is to remove the TMIC and intake manifold plenum?
Would I have to replace any gaskets? Buy them from Subaru?
Any help will be appreciated thankss.

Intercooler must come off. I cleaned mine the other day but its still throwing up a CEL. Hopefully new one solves this problem. I didnt change the gasket either.

I managed to clean mine without removing it. Take inter cooler off and any piping which will expose the throttle body. You can give it a light spray of carby cleaner and use a clean rag to clean any crap in there. Also u can use a soft stick to open the throttle plate. Not sure it counts as a complete clean but I was happy. Surprisingly there wasn't that much crud or oil build up in there. Taking it further would mean unplug the wiring connector and removing the 4 bolts me thinks.

Sweet thanks guys, will give it a shot on the weekend. Got a rough idle, already gave the MAF sensor a clean. Did nothing. So thought next up be the throttle body.

Hey it's some what erratic.
The best way I can describe it is the revs sit about 800rpm idle then drops to 400-500rpm and shakes like its missing.. Then goes back up..and repeats itself, one time it just went away completely for about 5 minutes and I thought the car was off...lols
Had it hooked up to a OBD2 scan tool, and saw that the rpms went from 400-600-800-400-1000-600-800 rpm
random rpms range from 400-1100rpms.
So yeah any thoughts on that?

Could be a number of things. Might be worth getting a new front O2 sensor if it is an older gen 4 (get the revised version) as almost everyone I know who has a gen4 has had to get theirs replaced. Symptoms like you describe.

I'm no mechanic but I had exactly the same prob and it was the front O2 sensor

Does it only happen when idling (I only really noticed it when stopped at lights) mine just Dropped from 700 to 400 rpm sharply every 3-4 seconds

Check the 2nd page for part numbers of revised O2. Garage88 has them

Yeah only when I'm at a stop light and idling! Yeah it shakes every 4-5 seconds you can almost anticipate it?
Don't really feel it when I'm fanging it though...haha
I'm not a mechanic either, but I will give the TB a clean and see what happens then, if doesn't go away I'll look into the new o2 sensor as suggested!
What about the MAF? I hear they can go faulty too?
Is it the one you can see when you take off the TMIC, attached to the pipe coming from the turbo?

Sounds like O2 sensor to me. Exactly the same symptoms as I had.

Considering the car is 8 years old and the O2 is prone to failure it'd be worth replacing it sooner Than later anyway.

Still be a good idea to give everything a clean anyway, be careful with the TB as I believe they are quite touchy and expensive

I can't remember the names of what sensor is what but the one on the air box and the one to the left of your alternator are the ones that could be suspects..

Yeah one on the air box is the MAF I believe.
Just finish cleaning the TB was no gasket but an o ring.. wasn't too dirty but cleaned it up put her back together and still shake n baking... haha
Can I just ask if theres no CEL how can you know if the o2 sensors gone? Or any other sensor for that matter
Wouldn't it shoot up a code?
Will probably be looking into a new o2 sensor as advised.

Mine never threw a code but definitely was the O2. Change it now

Basically from what ive learnt so far with libs is if its idling lumpy while stationary its 02 sensor. If its hesitating or giving a misfire feeling while driving, its airflow sensor. My throttle body threw a code in my case but only lumpy idle i got came with a CEL.

Well I didnt notice it before but when I'm driving in gear it doesn't hesitate but it feels jumpy when I've got my foot on the throttle as steady as I can. Don't know if its just me or it's bumpy roads really hard to tell.
When I cleaned the throttle body I didnt see no sensor on it or nearby I did unplug one connector got no idea to what though haha
Hopefully its the o2 sensor I will get one off my next paycheck haha
