Hey guys,

Not exactly the most technical question but I'm in talk with a person about buying a car. The Rego expires on Monday (27th May), I wouldn't be able to collect the car until Saturday (1st June). What's the process I would need to go through? The car doesn't require a pink slip as of yet (MY08 Liberty), could I simply drive to the RTA in the morning and tarnsfer the ownership over & pay for the rego? Has anyone gone through a similar process before, obviously driving an unregistered car is illegal... not sure if there is an exception I can get for purchasing a car.

Why don't you just ask the RTA?

They're closed until Monday and I wan't to make an offer to the person.

Why don't you just go and pay for the car, go to RTA, pay transfer and rego, then go back to the car and drive it?

Yes the car dose need a pink slip .Non pink slip only apply for the first 3 years of rego in NSW .You can purchase Green slip on line .


You dont need to drive it to the RTA to get it transferred just take all the paperwork and make sure you have a bill of sale signed by the past owner stating sale price.

Have you done a REVs check??? http://www.nsw.gov.au/news/revs-replace ... l-register if not do it NOW and pay the extra for a certificate !!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the info, It's actually cars older than 5 years require a pink slip at least according to multiple pages on the RTA website. I just aske the seller to renew it for 6 months, no issues there.

As for the REVs check I just got a 100 point check which includes it, it costs a little extra but it comes with peace of mind.

It's a good idea to just get them to do the online notice of disposal, it sure as hell makes things easier.

Hopefully this time next week ill be a happier owner of a Subaru Liberty GT Sti tuned
