Hi guys need some help from those in the know!

My outside trim on the drivers door has started to lift away at one end.
Just wondering if anyone knows how these are affixed and how to repair and stop the lifting?

Fingers crossed nothing internal needs to be done

Last time i washed my car i noticed the same thing.
Same door too. I'm just going to use some decent glue, it'll hold it down easy.

Yeh for now Ive used double sided tape, seems to be holding alright for now.

Subaru call in "belt moulding". Its heald on with a few clips and a screw.
A $127 part from subaru to replace!! Found that the clip which is to the rear has snapped (guessing from when the drivers window was replaced before I purchased the vehicle).

Just nervous that water will get inside the door jam and mess the electrics.

Ian it's a very common problem. Apparently they can get hooked on someones clothing which in turn rips off the belt moulding. Mine had exactly the same thing when I bought it about 6 months ago. I tried double sided tape but it didn't last long for at all. Then tried glue but that was a disaster, I just made a mess and it was ineffective! The only real fix is to replace the belt mould altogether as the clips are broken. I tried Subaru for a price and their quote was laughable. I don't remember the exact price but it was north of $400 to replace and fit 2 belt moulds which would include "an hour" of labour. I then found 2 belt moulds at a wrecker for $50 each and they were fitted by a friend in the know in about 10 minutes!

The door is already designed to allow water in and to drain it (it has to!). All the electrics are sealed, so don't worry about that.

As for the trim, sometimes it's just better to do the job right than half-arsed. Paying Subaru for the part might seem like a waste of money, but you'll have the knowledge that the part was replaced correctly and will last a few more years again.

I don't remember what glue I used but it was more an issue of not enough surface area for the glue to be effective. I agree it should be done correctly and as far as I was concerned the part sourced from the wreckers and installed by a pro was the right solution.

Haha thanks hyrax, knowing water isn't an issue is a relief!

Don't worry if I am all about doing it right once, not half 2 times or more

Will ring a few wreckers try get a good price from them.
