Racks, Roof Pods and Towbar

Postby bass_ke » Sat Jan 12, 2008 5:34 pm

Hey guys!

I'm going to be taking about a 1 1/2 month long road trip down the east coast of Aus and down to Tassy this year and I'm looking for some extra Storage

Just wondering if anyone can give me tips on some good brands of Roof Racks and Roof Pods, where to buy them and how much

Could i also get similar advice for towbars?

Cheer's!

Hey bud,
Towbar wise a hayman reese will be very similar to the factory bar that subaru sells. I don't know how much subi want (it would make for a good starting point on value for money) but I would think you will get a hayman for somewhere neer the low $400 mark once you get the local towbar guy to get serious. It should be a straight forward job...

Hey Mate

Thule Racks are the way to go..

A far as the tow ball goes, is your car an auto? if so I would suggest you get the Trans Oil Cooler intalled at the same time, it is standard fitment if you buy a genuine suby towball (~$800 from memory, but optional if you go elsewhere!)

Have fun!

I think there was a problem with it obstructing the centre seatbelt and the curtain airbags in the 07 wagon, so you couldn't fit one legally...

I think you may find that the subie towbar is a hayman reese. HR may also do a better job of fitting the trailer wiring plug than the subaru guys - the mounting on mine is crap - it's the lowest point on the back of the car and have just destroyed the second one when parked rear into the curb.

Have Rola roof racks - they mount nicely into the roof rails and good range of accessories - eg ski mounts. Rhino racks were pretty tradesman-like - not good on a luxobarge liberty. 8)

Thanks for the replys guys!

The lib is the first Auto I've owned so i didn't even think about the Transmission Oil Cooler!

The racks and pod are sounding like a very attractive option

Can you get the rola rocks in a "Low Profile" Type?

Hey Stu.

Rola racks are low profile and no wind noise with the sunroof open.

Thanks Kev!

Some of the other rhino gear look's good as well! I'm very interested in the roof pods

The Bike mounts look great, I'm starting to get a bit of interest in MTB and hopefully going for a ride on a mates bike shortly to see if I'm any good at it!

I'll be getting a tow bar fitted very soon for the same thing mate, not overly keen on putting the bike in the back of the GT.

I didn't mind the look of some of the other Rhino stuff either, it seems to be reasonably priced too.
