Hey guys,

This was one that I thought I'd be able to tackle myself with ease, however i've been stumped along the way.

The 5sp auto as per the book requires 9.8L of fluid. I've just drained mine and I'm lucky to have got 3.5L out. Now, unfortunately, my amateur mistake was to not check the level before i drained it.

Is there any tricks to get all the oil out? Do i have to start the engine briefly or anything like that?

Oh, and where do i refill it back up from? Just through the dip stick hole?

Any quick help would be appreciated!

All good now. Managed to get onto a few phone a friends.

FYI for those who ask the same question in the future...only the fluid in the sump is changed (unless an external mech pump is used), and you fill through the dipstick tube on the passenger side of the engine bay.

Did you also change the filter? it's located in the fender behind the battery

and which oil did you use? is it alright to mix different types of oil, such as Subaru oil and other brand synthetic oil?

Correct. If you remove the filter, and leave the car to drain out over night you will get alot more fluid from it.

It's ok to mix, each oil change you do it will dilute the old oil more and more. If I were changing oil brands in an auto trans I would let it drain over night, put in the new oil, run the car for a tank, then drain it overnight again. This would let the oil mix in with the old stuff and get a bit more of it out.

Nope. This is a good thing though. I never had any issues with my transmission. I was just doing routine maintenance.

No I didn't change the filter, according the manual it's a maintenance free item...and at $66 from Subaru, I'm glad! As for oil, I used Castrol Transmax Multivehicle.

And just to be clear, mine is the 5sp auto...so as B4ITZUP mentioned, my filter is in the front guard next to the battery. It's not the filter that is mounted to the side of the box in other models.

I drained mine, refille, drove it for a week, drained it again then repeat x2.

Should be pretty fresh fluid in there now.

Disconnect cooler line. Run till its dry.

Throw a few L of new shit in.

Repeat.

Repeat

Then fill with tq95 and smile.

Drive to auto specialist.

Say "flush wiv big macheen fingy plz"

Hand over the Benjamin's

Drive away

Skid

Beer

Sex

Sleep
