Replace knock sensor on 2.5T

Hi guys,

Wondering how difficult it is to replace the knock sensor on a 2007 GT Liberty? Is it easy to do and whereabouts is it? I'm pretty low on the mechanic scale but I know how to use a torque wrench.

Was keen to do it myself to save the inconvenience (and cost) of leaving my car in the mechanics for a day.

Also any tips on the best place to source a new knock sensor?

(Also is there a Haynes manual for these cars?)

Cheers.

Seek and you shall find he said...

and I did.

Found an awesome set of shop manuals for the legacy here...

So the knock sensor replacement looks simple enough though any tips / opinions would be appreciated.

On my 08 gtb, the EcuDatascan says there is NO knock sensor data .....ignition correction and total timing is available, but not Knock sensor????
The sensor on the 05 Outback I had before was bolted on top of the block, left of sensor, bit behind the middle.

I guess your ecudatascan is not reading the right data. If your knock sensor were dead you'd definitely be throwing a CEL fault code.

Maybe its not seeing 'knock sensor', but it does show 'ignition correction' amongst the list of available data, so maybe thats it? It has a boost item , so it knows that side. I have another version of the workshop manuals that covers the GT engine, and purports to be Gen IV, and it shows NOTHING about a knock sensor, but the manuals in the link above do show it.

I've tried 3 different ODB connectors and only the Tactrix one has specifically shown the knock correction and knock sum.
