How do I install LEDs at the bottom of the car

Postby iSpecB » Fri Apr 06, 2012 3:34 pm

Hi guys, am interested in the mod as featured in this youtube video, that is, the LEDs at the bottom of the car when one unlocks or locks the car.

would appreciate if any forum members could point me to the right direction. Thanks!

A little over the top personally. To do it though you'd have to tap into the dome light wiring and ground your lights using that. But you can't put too many lights on there as (don't quote me I read it somewhere) the circuit they're on can only handle 30W.

I was thinking of doing something like this to mine, a friend has it on his BMW and I thought it was a nice touch, would also have interior door handles light up as well as footwell lights. Nice or Rice??

Yeah my thoughts exactly, the BMW ones shine down and kind of act like puddle lights, I think a subtle light under handle would look alright, hopefully...

Found this, just a dim light, pretty much what I'd be going for.

As far as I know... this is a post mod by Subaru themselves. One of my mates has a MY08 Forrester XT, and he got those same lights installed at one of the Subaru service centres. As for costs, I really don't know how much he spent... but looks cool though... yes... I can see how some of you guys think this looks kinda wanky... but hey... could be worse...
Below car has been gone for quite some time now... blew bottom end bearing and dealership screwed me! Now driving 2008 WRX with ~65k kms on the clock. Only has cat back exhaust and tune by KiDo at the moment! More to come... but slowly!

Purchased recently (12/11/2013), already with: Stage 2 Pedders lowered springs, rear Whiteline sway bar, Advan Racing TCII 18x8 wheels, k&N pod filter, custom 3" exhaust system from turbo back with Magnaflow mufflers. ECUTEK tune of some sort (hopefully soon to be fixed)..... now FIXED!! Now KiDo Tuned!
Added: HID kit, EZ lip equivalents to the front and sides, and various LED treatments, oem boot spoiler, [LGT WRC] plates, GFB Respons BOV for extra Pssscchhh! --> Gone... I couldn't afford it's heart transplant... but keep a look out, as it will come back on sale soon!

Had a bit of a browse and found it here:

These lights are called "Puddle Lights"

Wow that's expensive!!!

Anyways, thanks for pointing me to the right direction, i.e. the puddle lights.

A quick search in google I found this great step by step article for the 09 Forester using 3rd party parts and heaps cheaper!

http://www.commencetechnology.com/subaru/Puddle_Lamps_Install.pdf

Not sure if this can be replicated on the liberty though.

That looks OK but I do like the idea of the door handle lights :P

Other than time restriction... I'm sure nothing is impossible for our LED king.

i remember saw a 3 Series BMW with the handle LED ... and went WOW ....... i want that in my car ... few days later ... nahh !! too much work and looks a bit .... :?

but i quiet like the puddle light thats on the side mirror that some cars got, so when you unlock the doors the light on the bottom of the mirror lights up the ground .. and Ian i'm not starting another project !! haha

but i did this over the weekend ... took 2 mins.
