help! car wont lock n constantly beeps

Postby ncmx5 » Tue Nov 20, 2007 12:55 am

i was installing my amp & subs today and it was all going well until i connected the negative wire to the batt terminal. then the car continously beep beep beep - no stop! no warning lights came up. its still drivable, i took it around the block to check if its anything else. no only that, it wont lock as well. it would lock then automatically unlock. no usual flashing of the indicator lights. and the boot release on the remote doesnt work either. i cant manually lock the car using the key either . i dont know what to do. i have to go to work tomoroo and obviously lock the car!

This is a guess.
I think you may be feeding 12 volts back into the Accessory or ignition circuit, so when you try to lock the car, it thinks the keys are still in the ignition!

Obvious answer is try disconnecting all power to the amp and sub for now.

hmm, who would have guessed - a plug that was MEANT to be unplugged?!

Did you ask them what the plug was?

I've heard of that plug. Connecting them puts the instrument panel into a test mode. You have to do a few other things in sequence, then the odometer/tripmeter will start displaying ECU error codes.
I guess it doesn't let you lock the car in that mode, to remind you to unplug it afterwards.

Ric,

Might be an idea to move this away to be safe..

It's a bit of a security flaw that you wouldn't want people to know, especially if they need a free car ;)

People that want to steal a Subaru, know how to steal a Subaru, and will get in no matter what.

Kids that do 80% of break in and steal cars will usually jam a screwdriver or smash a window.

Hiding all these threads with these little 'problems' doesn't benefit anyone, because when we have the same problem I won't know what to do.

ric the plug you're thinking about is in the fuse box next to your leg.

the service guy told me that this was used to reprogram codes for the key fob its not in the fuse box, its under it behind the kick panel.
