Change Gear knob on MY06 2.0R

Hi guys

How do I change the gear nob on the 2006-08 Libertys? It seems that the leather boot is stitched to the actual knob. Because when you unscrew the knob, you can feel that it is detached because it flops over, but you can't remove it because it is still attached to the leather boot.

Any ideas? Pictures will help me too!

Thanks!

I don't think it is stitched to the actual knob. I believe there is a clip that holds it in place... but lets wait for someone *cough Kieran cough*, or anyone who has done it before to confirm.

You are right..

Its not the knob, it looks like it is the flange that is connected to the gear lever is also connecting to the boot. After much fiddling... looks like there's 2 options I have, which are both bad. One; break the stitching of the boot so I can take the knob off, or two; cut it clean across.. I don't like the sound of the latter.. haha! Tried pulling and tugging (yes guys, I did have a hearty breakfast), and it won't budge.

Its definitely not stitched to the gear knob. Just hold the top part of the leather boot while unscrewing the gear knob, the thread is quite long so you'll have to turn it for a while. Then just with a bit of force pull the knob off the leather stitching, its sort of folded on to the bottom of the knob.

Hope this helps

Thanks dmh87, that did help! I think I was just more scared of breaking something! haha!

So any other people that would like to do the same thing, here is the walkthrough.. The art of removing the knob from the boot was to pull on one side quite firmly (it will show a white plastic underneath the knob, but that is the piece thats holding it together with the boot), keep pulling it and it should just 'pop' off (yes it did have the sound).
