hey guys, I have a really weird issue with my headlights/high beams on my 05 GT. they seem like they aren't getting enough power, one headlight is brighter than the other, the other is just a dull glow and the high beams have a permanent dull orange glow even when they aren't switched on. when I do flick the high beams, one turns on, but the other side that was glowing turns off! wtf? I'm so baffled, somebody help please!

Are the highbeams with the dull glow thats permanently on only on when the low beams are on? Or even when the low beams are off?

only when the headlights are on. and when I flick
the high beams on, the lowbeam that is dull goes off completely

Sounds like the wire going to the low beam that is dull may be shorting out somewhere on one of the high beam circuit wires.
I'd take it to an auto elec to have a look.

I've tried a number of different combinations, unplugging and swapping relays and unplugging one side main connector. I have managed to swap sides on the issue. eg, dull used to be on the left, and left high beam not working. now it's the other way around. strange? (relays are all new I didnt just swap them left and right)

this happened to myself a few months ago actually. My problem had to do with the HID kit i was using. I think the ballist was messing up the rest of the electricals. Once i took the HID kit off and stuck regular headlights in the problem went away. I took it up to my local mechanic to get all that information though. Might be worth just getting your resident mechanic to give it a look. Not sure if that will help you at all. All the best

I think I have the same problem. damn made in china hid kits. but I've put the halogens back in already and they're still the same. regardless, I think there was something wrong to start with because the headlights were really really weak, and even after I put the hids in they weren't nearly as bright as the exact same set as I have in my supra.. maybe take it to an auto electrician?

Check that the globes are seated properly. Seen a few instances where the globe was sitting on an angle, thus the light was not going through the projector.

globes were tested out of the housing

did it happen to u as soon as u put the HID in? or did it work fine for a while? mine worked for about a month after installing the hid, but last night one seemed like it blew, so I changed the ballast. then it looked like I blew a high beam as well so I changed that too. in the end they were both fine, just decided to go spastic on their own..

Other thing I'd suggest, check your fuses.

problem solved. took it to an auto electrician. fixed it within half an hour and wouldn't give me a clear explanation of what was wrong. just an "open circuit fuse" which I had changed last night....wtf??

Sounds to me like what I suggested - the fuse was blown but not fully blown, so it was still partially intact.
