Auto to Manual convertion?

So yeah the other day I went to this transmission shop and asked him how much will it cost me to upgrade my gearbox. Said around $1200 and he said he's gonna make a launch fast and such. But my friend told me if i want fast i should just get manual car.. So, here I am thinking if i should convert it to manual... I don't want to sell the car coz i really want to keep the car. All suggestions r welcome (:

It is false economy in my opinion.

If you are going to do everything yourself the parts alone would be in excess of $1200. If you have to pay someone to do it you'll have no change from $2k. With all respect mate is it worth it for a car (LX gen1) that is at max worth 3K?
