Disconnecting centre brake light MY10 sedan

Hey guys, I have been struggling with this for a couple of days now. I cannot find a way to disconnect the centre (parcel shelf) brake light on an MY10 Liberty GT. I have a spoiler with a brake light in it, so I don't need the one in the rear window.

I know I am probably only struggling against my own stupidity, but if anyone can tell me how to make the thing stop working, I would appreciate it.

There should either be a connector under the parcel shelf, accessible from the boot, otherwise you will probably find it is between the parcel shelf frame and the trim. The brake light in my MY05 GT was very easy to take out from memory and I think I saw a connector between the frame and the trim.

Mate, I did disconnect the most obvious and closest connector, but that wasn't it. I have since disconnected another one (three of them are speakers) and that didn't do the trick either. The light is almost impossible to get off from the top to disconnect at the source, and I can't see where the wires go. This is insane! I thought there may be a handy fuse for it, but there isn't.

If anybody has a 2010 Lib GT sedan and a spoiler, and you have managed to disconnect your rear parcel shelf brake light, please let me know how you did it!! Going nuts!

Assuming that the top mount brake light has the same mounting as the Gen 4 then to take it off you have to push it towards the rear of the car and then lift it up. Shouldn't take a lot of force but you just have to push it far enough back to lift it easily.

The connector should be under there.

It has a cover over it, which covers the whole parcel shelf. Or do you mean from underneath? Even if it was from underneath, it would be impossible because of the cover over the top of it, which the speakers sit on...

I have looked for a workshop manual on this car but cannot find one. There has to be some way of doing this without taking it to a dealer and paying $$ for the privilege of them doing 5 minutes' work in 2 hours.

OK, so in the boot on the passenger side, in the corner formed by the passenger side wall, the parcel shelf and the seat back is a small wiring harness. This contains the brake wire. Simply unplug (which is a bit of a chore) and you're done. Not sure what else is in that plug, but I will sure as hell find out next time I drive it....

If I'm understanding you correctly, you are saying that the entire parcel shelf trim is moulded around and over the high mount brake light. If this is the case, the only way to disconnect it is to remove the parcel shelf trim.

Once again I'm going on the assumption that it is the same (or very similar) for the Gen 5 as it is for the Gen 4.

Remove the back seat bench (lift up with a bit of force and then slide it forward once it unclips)
Remove back seat (4 bolts hold it in which are visible once the bench it out of the way)
Depending where the plug is you may be able to access it by sliding your hand under the trim otherwise to remove the trim generally the C Pillar trim has to come off and from there the parcel shelf trim comes off.
