Hey. Just would Luke to know te better route to take... Turbo motor or 3.0ltr motor to put into my 04 2.5ltr liberty.
Just would Like to know the pros and cons of either these motors/conversions.
Also has anybody ever turboed the 3.0ltr motors? This is the route I really wanna take but I don't know what's involved.
Am I being stupid or is it best just to use the 2.5turbo motor?
Either way I'm going to be sending the motor to get rebuilt with strengthened internals because I want to have a monster on my hands. Big plans for this car. I'm a Spray painter and it's getting a full respray in the coming weeks. can't wait.
Budgeting 10k for all mechanicals. (brakes, suspension, engine rebuild and turbo kit).
Any info/opinions/experience will be greatly appreciated.

Really? So with that budget best just getting a front cut for a turbo model and then just simple mods?

I'm no professional but aren't brembos alone about 3k?
Buy a 3.0RB & whack a Raptor Supercharger on it.. There's a thread on it

Ok thanks. Just checked out that thread on the supercharger.
I think I'm just gonna re spray my car then sell it and buy a turbo model. Lol.
I think it will save a lot of headaches for me.

How I love what he's done with that. I love his mods list and budget. Haha, probs would have not got a lib and used that money + his mods budget and got a 06-08 M3.

Word on the grape vine is that the pulse twin turbo 3 ltr experienced issues and blew a turbo or two? At least that's the rumour circulating around Menai (where I live and where Pulse is located). Might wanna double check with DeMobBoss though

Take everything you hear about pulse with a serious grain of salt, and go have a beer with damobboss if you are serious and want to talk about it. If you're planning spending 10k on an engine whats 200 bucks in flights to go get some gossip from the horses mouth and not some internet forum. Im sure he has good and bad things to say, and there are great parts and shit parts of his TT convo. And im sure he'd happily explain those and some of the costs involved just to scare you shitless.
A turbo EZ30R done right is an absolute weapon. Lazy 330+kw atw with 18lbs on a gt40 that isnt even on its compressor map yet.
Turboing an EZ30R done cheap:
The stock motor is not made for boost, or even remotely close to it. Anyone who says otherwise is full of shit.
But if you must do it, it can be done relatively cheaply.
Budget the purchase price of the engine (a confirmed runner 3.0 with no big end knock...haha about 2.5+ grand as a minimum. I have spares).
A computer to run the engine (Vipec V88) $2500
Even the cheapest of manifolds using the stock 3:1 merge, to a twin scroll T4 flange: Maybe $1k
Turbo GT3540r, GT3788R, GT40R $1.5 to 2k
Wastegates: $600
Intercooler: 200
Stainless or alloy plumbing $1k
Modify fuel rail to parallel with returns, add a decent fuel pump and a new lift pump, and a larger feed line, and 6x sti pink injectors: $2-3k.
Full exhaust inc cats off turbo w/ wastegate merges? $2k
General fabrication (oil and water, cutting out shit to fit crap, removing the engine a half dozen times to get little fiddly bits done etc. $2-3k
Clutch/flywheel: $1600 from jim berry mates rates. Add 20%
Full 6 speed conversion with brembos F&R and R180 rear diff, R180 shafts and machined rear hubs to fit, with a set of R180 spindle carriers: $7k or so.
Dyno time and tune: 1500-2k
Now factor in the things I havnt thought of. Add x %.
All of this is a waste of time with a stock block. Factor in a rebuild with pistons, rods, bearings. Block preparation, head preparation, new ancilleries, valve springs etc. $somewhere well north of 6 grand as a minimum.
Looking at a reliable, safe, engineerable car. Somewhere around 350kw atw. And thats doing it all on the cheap.
Ok so now we have established that this is a stupid option.
You have a 2004 liberty.
2008 impreza sti twin scroll half cut $8000
Fitment and bullshit as a drive in drive out conversion $5k?
Still seems silly...
Sell 2004 liberty, buy an 03+ sti.

My grape vine comment was not actually a comment from anyone in this forum but was from people who are friends with pulse employees themselves, I live in Menai. Like I said, if it hasn't actually blown then DaMobBoss can clear it up!

Still cheaper to sell the car and buy a GT/3RB.
