That is fuel additive (octane booster) not upper engine clean

Really?
It's just injector cleaner they give me.

I see the mistake here.
It is indeed a fuel system cleaner not an octane booster.

Injector cleaner is an octane booster.

Are you talking about "Subaru Fuel Addictive" Part No. SA718?
Nothing on the bottle says anything about being an octane booster. What would be the point? The prime point of the product is to clean injectors...

High octane cleans the fuel system. That's why bp 98 is so highly recommended in Australia. Because we don't have 105 octane or anything like that.

Where are you getting that info?
"High octane" is simply a measure of the resistance to knocking. Nothing to do with cleaning.
BP98 and other "premium" fuels are recommended for cleaning because they contain more detergents, which do nothing for octane rating.

Al, the item you've mentioned is the Subaru fuel additive which Subaru advise to add in the middle of the service interval.

The Subaru Upper Engine Cleaner(UEC) is done at services depending on the dealership you use. Docklands I've noticed don't do it, whilst Doncaster do. Though both bills show the work being carried out. Though if it's not done you won't see item SA459 or SA489, can't remember off the top of my head, mentioned in the parts list. Confirm this with your subaru workshop.

I think I still have two cans of upper engine cleaner at home, if anyone wants to buy the cans off me, let me know.

I'd give it a crack in your current car. Can't see that it would hurt.

Would any upper cylinder/air intake cleaner be suitable? Are there particular brands I should avoid for this application?

Hi Guys,

Does anyone have a pic of Liberty Gen5 (2010-2011) engine to show where to spray the Upper Engine Cleaner? I got the bottle from the Subaru dealer.

My knowledge about car mechanics is pretty basic, so any picture is highly appreciated

Thanks!
