Need help before I buy this liberty please!

Postby Simplyrob_mate » Fri Sep 09, 2011 4:23 am

Hey! I am taking a Subaru liberty from a car yard to my mechanic to do a quick check over... The thing is I have no idea about liberty's and coming on this website has been a little overwhelming. So a couple of quick questions.....
Here's the model it's an April 2004 model. Unfortunately I don't know what motor is inside but I initially thought that all the 04 models that aren't turbo motors, were 2.5llitre motors?
Also. What's the difference with "pre face lift" and "post facelift"?
And by telling you guys it's an 04/04 model would you be able to tell by this information only can you determine of it's pre or post facelift?
These are other things I remember about the car that might help...
It has a dual exhaust system
5speed manual transmition.
A mesh grill.
Sunroof.

Any info at all would be absolutely awesome!
Thanks guys!

Its a pre facelift model. 04 - 06 is pre, 07 - 09 is post.

If it has dual exhausts it wont be a 2.0L as they only had one exhaust outlet. As a non turbo it could also be a 3.0L which is the 6 cylinder.

Does it have leather? Premium pack has leather and a sunroof. Could also be a safety pack with a sunroof.

Oh ok. Well um pretty sure it's not the 3.0 because the motor was a four cylinder and I'm assuming the 3.0 was only on the 6 cylinder motor?
It may be a safety pack... No leather. The dash does a full sweep though when I turn the ignition on.
I have a couple photos but I'm only on my iPhone cos ive just moved into a new house so net isn't set up set.
I could send them to your email?
Thanks so much mate... Your help is really appreciated.

Im guessing 2.5 safety pack. Yes 3.0l is the H6.

Cluster full sweep on start up is a standard thing across the range.

Thanks for your help guys... I pick the car up on Tuesday! How exciting! =)

Also.. Are most parts from wrx or sti able to fit onto the liberty? Or are they all different and I would have to do a bit of research?
I'm looking at a set of pink sti springs.. Would they fit? And would it do my liberty any good?

Be careful!! You'll get criticised heavily on here for branding your car with STI gear!!

STI springs will fit your car, lower it & improve handling. Upgrade the shocks to the Bilsteins as well for a better ride

Oh shit... Lol. Why is it such a sin to use sti parts on a liberty? Is it because it's stupid to make the liberty something that if is not?
Ok so you're suggesting to use only the sti springs and replace the sti shocks with the bilstein ones?
Also will this sort of mod make the ride more rough and bumpy? The reason is I don't wanna get murdered from the wife because we have just sold her Barina to buy this liberty because we r having a baby in January... That's why I don't wanna go too crazy with the mods. Lol

Its your car mate, put whatever you want on or in it.

Too many over opinionated people in the world. ;)

You will need the STi springs for a GenV sedan. WRX STi springs wont fit. All WRX brakes are bolt on but if you wanted an upgrade the best option is GT brakes as theyre the biggest under Brembo's.

STi springs with Bilsteins wont be too harsh of a ride to get the missus complaining. ;)

Buy Spec B Bilstein from Wheel Power.

It's already good for handling but ride height will be the same. Want's lower? Yeah could be STi springs or Eibach for comfort.

Thanks

I'm picking up some Bilsteins with pink springs tomorrow morning & will be upgrading to Tein springs shortly afterwards. Will have them up for sale very soon. I'm buying them with 8500km of use so will still run like new if you're interested.. That could be a month or so away though

Oh oh, can I shot gun those STI pink springs? Been looking all over for them. :D. Just fitted billies but the ride is still too lose.

Rob: there's a set of billies with STI pink springs on them already up for sale on here for $550 if your keen, not trying to help other members sell there stuff, but just a good idea if your looking at billies because it's the same price as new ones, and they already have the STI springs on them.
