Tilt Headlights 2008 GT - seem too low

Postby triston » Mon Sep 05, 2011 5:51 pm

Hi,

I heard that the 2008 gt liberty's have auto tilt head lights?

if they do mine seem to be broken and stuck to low, at night they don't reach as far as you tend to gaze

do they really have tilt headlights? if so how to i fix them, heard i may have to take it to subaru and get them to plug a computer into the car and re-adjust them.

any help/ideas/comments would be appreciated

It doesn't tilt up and down like you think, it adjusts so that when you are going up a hill or going down a hill your lights aren't shining straight into drivers eyes that are in the opposite lane

There is a bolt that adjusts the height of the beam. Its located next to the cap for the low beam bulb from memory. If you download the workshop manual HERE, it'll show you where it is and the correct procedure for adjustment.

They just seem too low at night on flat ground, like they are stuck in the up or down hil postion

I always find myslef looking ahead of where the lights finish when driving at night - most other cars seem to extend further than mine.

how do your's seem?

I get the same feeling. I'm getting Leo to adjust mine a little higher for me, apparently there's a way to work out what the legal maximum is and I'm just gonna set it at that!

ADR's require that HID lights are self leveling so that if you load up the rear of the car they don't point upward into the eyes of on coming drivers. Subaru (and many other makers) meet this requirement by using self leveling rear shockers to level the whole car. The headlights are fixed to the car body. As posted above the static setting is adjustable at the headlight mount.
Stopping is not optional!

But by going aftermarket HIDs there is no more levelling

How so? The levelling is part of the headlight not the bulb?

I don't know, but both Leo and several other memebers said that with aftermarket HID there is no more self-levelling, and I've noticed that too, my headlights don't dip when I go up hills they remain pointed high

HAHAHAH .. WTF .. when did i say that .. haha i think you misunderstood ..

With factory xenon headlight it will come with self leveling ...

but for those running after HID kit for their low beam .. (obviously they don't have factory xenon), which mean ... they don't have self leveling .. or pop up washers .. :D

dont think your light will dip when you go uphill ... as your car is still level .. it's when you have extra load at the rear (for example people sit in the back seat or have few rice bags in your boot) .. than the light it will try to level it self as your car is not level.

Yeh all I meant is that you told me that with aftermarket HIDs there is no more self-levelling. So mine actually still have self-levelling cos all I did was replace the bulb?

your car either have self leveling .. or don't have it ...

if your car have factory xenon than ... yes

if your car don't have factory xenon than ... no

bulb got nothing to do with self leveling .. you can go put any replacement bulb in your headlight you will still have self leveling as thats built in your car/headlight. :D

as in my 05 GT it didn't come with factory xenon ... so i don't have the luxury of self leveling head lights like yours ... and i'm running after market HID kit in my car.
