Looking to get some idea of removing my brake calipers so I can paint them. Understand how to paint them though only removed brakes from my bike and not the car. Thanks heaps

there are two main bolts (with a sliding action, so you will need a socket and a spanner too) - top and bottom.

As for the lines themselves - I wouldnt go that far as to remove them and have to bleed the brakes afterwards... just newspaper/shield the important parts and paint them in your wheel wells

I would undo the 17mm's and 14mm's that hold the entire caliper housings on and paint that too. No point only doing half the job!

It's pretty simple just look at the back of the caliper where it bolts to the hub assembly. Fronts are 17mm's and rears are 14mm's. you'll need to use sockets on the rears are hey are in a hard spot for spanners.

Yep I wouldn't take calipers off unnecessarily then you have to get all the air back out.

Make sure you mask the rubber boots and not get brake cleaner/paint thinner on them else they will swell up. I wouldn't remove the boots entirely as the slider pin grease inside is very valuable (hard to obtain that exact type) so you won't want to lose any of it.

+1 to take the brackets off.

Rear calipers are very tight confines you'll need a long socket extension like 8" or so to get the socket through the back of the hub.

I ended up striking it off last weekend when I took my new rims to be wrapped in black petrochemical product and in addition to this, somehow ended up with my mildly rusty-looking calipers & rotor centres painted in gloss black as well. WHAT THE. Looks ok for a quick paint job... but WHAT THE?

Yer bit worried bout the whole bleeding part. So I should jus cover it up an leave the brake hose attached then paint them

I use Killrust paint and a soft bristle brush and paint them by hand. Give them a good clean first though with brake cleaner and a stiff brush.

Ive done most sets on the car and its pretty easy if you have a steady hand and no overspray.

Dont be concerned about brush marks as the paint flows out when wet and you get none.

Heres a set im doing right now. Killrust epoxy gloss enamel done by hand with a brush. Off the car this time.

I did my GT brakes in the same black a few weeks ago.

Can this just be bought at ya local hardware? Also have u painted them whilst the brake hose is still attached before? Jus more so worried about removing the calipers as I have never done this before

As stated before, the last 4 cars Ive painted the calipers with them still on the car. Easy as.

I want to take the whole caliper out and do a proper job of painting them.

I remember years ago working on the old mans Range Rover, we just clamped the brake line with some multigrips so we didnt have to bleed the system.

Has anyone else done this or is it best to just drain and re-fill afterwards?

When you disconnect the banjo bolt a tiny bit of brake fluid drips out of the connection and is replaced with air so when you reconnect them there will be air in there.
