I have just put custom plates on my car. and the old normal sized plates have just been screwed into the bumper. now with the custom plate being so much smaller it looks really bad. what would i use to fill this in?
cheers,

put a philips head screwdriver in the hole and hit it lightly with a hammer (to create a slight dip around the hole)
sand off the clear and base coat with wet emery paper (around 600 should do it)
put bog over the hole (I used builders bog, anything that can be used on metal)
sand it back with emery paper again (start with 600 then go up to 1200 to get a nice finish)
p.s dont sand the bog wet, it can clog up the emery..
spray a couple of coats of primer
couple of coats of base colour
couple of coats of clear

good as new!! I had the same problem when i debadged mine..

Std front plate mounts on late cars leave the bottom of the plate hanging down in the under-bumper intake. I hate this.
I get a piece of ply (or wood ~12mm thick) same size as the plate, work out where the mounting holes should be with the top at the top of the plate space, counter sink the screw holes so they are flush or under the surface, mount the wood to the bumper, then the plate to the wood - plate now fits neatly where it should, without ugly holes in the middle of it. Painted black the wood disappears mostly.
Maybe you could do something similar here - piece of black plastic or perspex mounted to the exposed holes, then the plate ?
Also the way the rear plate on wagons is mounted (top screws) means that each time you shut the tailgate it vibrates and annoys me so I have changed that also.

Piece of plywood bolted to the car? no thanks.

Even if it is painted water gets into the grain and unlease its marine ply you will have one big sponge holding water on your car

Okay, material of your choice to suit the conditions. Mine is now 3 yrs in use, no issues. I varnished it and painted it black. Its bolted to plastic anyway. I would have preferred alloy or perspex, but this sort of stuff is not as readily available as timber in thicknesses suitable for flsuh mounting a screw. Went looking at Bunnings yesterday for 140Wx 12mm thick plain timber- only size they had none of.....
Check out the front shot of plate here:-

You get the idea though? I just hate seeing up market cars with plates just held on with self tappers, no trim, no nothing. I have seen lots of BMW like this.

I also made a bracket, but I used stainless steel.

personally I prefer the simple, no trim look. took mine off as soon as I bought the car. personal preference tho i guess

How about using 5mm alloy plate - enough to mount with a c'sunk srew, not going to rust or warp with water....
Happy with that?
