subaru diognosed a/f ratio sensor po31 failed . quoted $768 + labour. can someone point out which sensor this is,and where I may purchase same.

Do a search under "o2 Sensor" you'll find pleeeeeenty on the damn things over in the 2.0T or 2.5T engine sections.

sensor is located on the n/s/f of the headers.Be careful with some of the aftermarket sensors as they dont seem to last.
