I recently sprayed my calipers front and rear to change their colour to red and they look pretty good i will put up some photos. I used high temperature red brake and caliper paint that i cleaned them up and painted them about a month ago. The problem i am having is that they have started to peel in some sections. Has anyone tried this before and if so have they had the same problem with the peeling? Any suggestions on re doing them? Cheers

Did you give the calipers a good scrub with a wire brush before painting, to smooth out the casting imperfections?

Seems as though you failed to prep correctly. A scrub with degreaser, a sand and a good wipe down and then a coat applied to dry surface would last for years

As above: Prep is key!
They need a really good degreasing, possibly rough up the surface ie Scotchbrite or the likes and if you're not 100% sure of the quality/bond strength & hardness of the paint, priming will ensure you a decent bond between the part and paint.
It's more work but it pays to remove the calipers completely imo.

Yeh sounds like i did i only used a degreaser to clean them up should have used a wire brush as well. ill start again this weekend degrease and brush them and re paint hopefully that should work. Most of it is fine it is just a couple of small sections that peeled. Thanks for that i will let you know how it pans out

I bought a wire brush attachment for my electric drill (couple of bucks each at Supercheap) and used that to remove all paint and grease, then used some "wax and grease remover" to remove any dust and other contaminents.
They were shiny silver but quite sticky after the prep and the paint has been on for about 5 years now

mate they look wicked can i ask how you got the subaru logo onto them? paint is 5 years old have you had to touch them up at all? Did you use spray of paint on brake and caliper paint? Thanks for the heads up ill try stripping them back next week and give it another go. I have a dremel with a wire brush attatchment so ill try hit it with that.

+ 1,000,000 on prep mate.
And make sure that you seal up any rubber area's before having a red hot go at it again.
Alternatively, get them powder coated like I did.

But I'm biaised. Lol.
Cheers

i used the same method as you mate... i painted them after a nice wash of the cash (without focusing on the brake too much) and ive had it for 5 months no peel
