Subaru Sat Nav Firmware Update

Postby Anndyk » Thu Sep 30, 2010 1:22 am

Well i just downloaded Toyota Sat Nav V15 - Australia and it seems to be working, although i was just wondering if you can update the systems firmware.
I got into the system.
I pressed the Menu button, then holding the top center for 10 seconds and type in the password '014220'
Any suggestion on weather is it is possible to update the firmware? (Not the Map C.D)

i would also love to be able to update the firmware on the sat nav for many reasons. the problem is i doubt kenwood even makes firmware updates for their own sat nav stuff let alone subaru make an update for their adapted kenwood unit.

camera alerts would be so so handy and the data is on the disk for them ( as far as i know).

I have joined this forum to try and find out if anyone actually found firmware to update the Kenwood Sat Nav units in Subaru's. I own a 2012 Subaru Tribeca (4th Subaru 2 Liberty, 1 Impreza. and cannot find a general Subaru site.
The Sat Nav in my vehicle has Kenwood 2005 on the info screen and I have been told it is the same sat nav from the 2010 Tribeca (not up dated).
Subaru and Kenwood and Subaru are not helpful and have made complaint to Fair Trading and looks like they will not do anything either. Got vehicle with V17 Whereis mapping (before V18 was released and they want $295 for update for one year).
The information on the Kenwood unit fitted to the Tribeca is not on the Kenwood site (as they are a oem Subaru item) so you cannot find any firmware updates.
They did supply me with the relevant model numbers which are of no use as they have no information about these models on their sites...
Anyhow I want to be able to reprogram the sat nav so I can get the FULL functions of the whereis software, Apparently Subaru and some other car manufactures program their sat nav units and Subaru has a 'policy' not to allow the unit to be programed to display on the main map such things as, vehicle current speed, road travelling on speed, and be able to set an over speed warning.
The whereis software does this and more BUT Subaru will not program their sat nav to use all the functions of the whereis software.
I want to be able to program my sat nav to be able to make use of ALL the functions of the whereis software.
The Subaru unit is antiquated no option for 3D no advanced lane guidance to name a few and it actually looks woeful. I have some portable units which I bought (5" and & 7" for under $100 with current mapping and ALL the options (igomyway Primo).
I was also trying to find out how I can put other mapping programs on the Unit? Will not tell me that either.

Sensis and Navteq are the only mapping providers in Australia and they sell their mapping programs to unit manufacturers e.g. Garmin, tom tom, navman, denso, horizon, igomyway etc. and of course whereis is part of Sensis. AND no one will sell you the mapping program unless you buy a sat nav/gps unit with it?

They supplied the following Model numbers etc.

Main model number FV1001MF2

Satellite Navigation - Navigation System Display - Model FGZ001EF2 Subaru part 86281XA02A

Satellite Navigation - Navigation System Unit - Model FV1001MF2 Subaru part 86271XA03A

Satellite Navigation _ Navigation system switch unit - Model FRC001EF2

SO can anyone help with any information on the sat nav unit or re-programing, and firmware and if other mapping programs can be installed.
Also if another unit can be retro fitted to the vehicle...
Recently I saw a refurbished portable GPS/blue tooth etc. unit on an on line shopping site with the latest 2012 maps and all the options I am after and more for $39...and I got Sygic on my mobile phone for around $30 and that also has far more functions than the sat nav unit in my car.
The issue I have with having the roadway speed limit, vehicle current speed and being able to see an over speed warning is an proven road safety issue (many studies have been done including the Monash University Accident Research section on the benefits to road safety of speed alerts etc. BUT it appears that Subaru are not interested in road safety.
Anyhow Kenwood would do nothing and referred me to Subaru and they flat out refused...
NOT HAPPY...CAN ANYONE HELP?

I have reason to believe that the kenwood dvd drive can be replaced with a kenwood KNA-G Series unit, Which is garmin navigation. (Not sure Which models are compatible, i think the 431 is, and i think the 510 had some issues, though i think they have been overcome) and no-one has said that they have tried the 630.

I've just seen this post and it doesn't surprise me that there is another 2012 Subaru with an outdated Sat Nav!

FYI the Subaru 2012 XV with factory Sat Nav has taken new owners by surprise in that it has a 2 year old map that will cost$$$ to update later this year when some cars will only be a matter of months old. Further it doesn't have working Traffic, speed limits, cameras, etc and it can NEVER have that even though the manual says it has it!

The identical rebranded unit in the much cheaper Yaris has all of that!

Just saying..... :angry2:
