Guys,

My 12 LED Arrays for the Map lights were $10 each. They were on special at the time from the place I mentioned earlier. Normally $20.00 each.

I have purchased another 2 for the Dome Light and will source the bits and pieces to join them into a 24 LED array this weekend. The result may be too bright so I will try a single 12 LED array first and see if that is good enough.

I am also going to replace all the 31x11 mm 8W bulbs in the doors and boot with the 4 LED Festoons.

Ok, now that I have mastered Photobucket and BBCode, here are some pics of my conversion to LED Interiors.

http://s577.photobucket.com/albums/ss21 ... finish.jpg

Decided on only a single array for the moment to see how bright it is at night.

http://s577.photobucket.com/albums/ss21 ... nstall.jpg

The install fo the two festoon adapters goes straight in to the existing sockets, no mods needed here.

http://s577.photobucket.com/albums/ss21 ... tening.jpg

I used the double sided sticky foam strips that came in the kits to fasten the 4x3 LED arrays to the supporting shroud in the Map Light cover/lens.

The finished product does the job for me.

Comments welcome.

Ok, so I have not yet mastered BBCode. First time I posted the links wrapped in the [img]and[/img] codes and second time, I left the BBCode out, but all I can see are the URL links.

I tried to copy & paste, but that does not work either.

My options (on the side panel as I create this message) indictae that HTML is OFF and BBCode is ON.

Any clues for a dummy?

And now for the view that shows the Map Light facade with the 4x3 LED array fastened with double sided foam:

A simple job really. Straight forward and took only a few minutes reading the Owners Manual to identify how the covers come off.

Dome Light

Postby MH3.0R » Sun Feb 22, 2009 3:45 pm

Guys,

I tried the single 12 LED array in the Dome light as featured earlier. It was brighter than standard and the blueish hue looks cool in my opinion, not too ricey though. But I decided to try a dual arrangement as follows:

Step 1 - Joined two of the 12 LED arrays to connect with a single 31mm x 11mm festoon. A staggered conncetion was created to avoid any possible future short. Common insulation tape over the solder joints:

Step 2 - Install, tucking the connections backup into the roof lining:
Image
Also, notice the double sided foam to stick the LED array to the dome reflector. This angles the LED arrays at about 10 degrees which helps spread the light more evenly in the rear cabin.
Image

Step 3 - Finish!

All up, $20 and about one hour of my time.

Any suggestions for improving light in the front seat area of a wagon? Leds would be great, but I want something switched with the door opening. Is the circuit accessible? Could I fit something on the side of the console that would light up the front floor and seats?
tks

JP928,

I have read where others have tried to tap into the switched wiring to the dome light and ended up (maybecoincidentally) frying their Body Control Unit ($700 plus). So unless you are familiar with BCU operation and output specs, along with the various diode options suggested, I would steer clear of such a mod.

It must be possible though, just needs to be done professionally IMO.

Kind Regards,

Mark.

Understand. Can you suggest anybody who could look at such a thing? When my wagon is in the garage at night, even with overhead lights on and door open (ie dome light on), with dark grey seats and black floor mats, you can see NOTHING in the front seats at all, and finding the maplight switch reaching in from outside is a PITA, and shouldnt be necessary.....The dealers look at me like I am speaking swahili when I raise it as an issue.
