After gettign advice from the forums and from members like tek, I have learnt the art of washing a car properly.

It took a lot of self research but also knowledge form the guys on here. I'm glad that the peeps on here are so helpful and responsive.

I guess if You have a bad swirl problem.. you may need to get that stage 3 thing done. it may be costly But it seems to work for a badly kept car.

After you have had this done, Go get some good products (you will need to spend some more money!) in terms of shampoos/clay/polish/wax/sealant stuff. There are a lot of good products... so really it will be up to you. I got all my stuff not off the shelf but I did pay a price for more expensive and quality stuff but am so glasd I did.

I think the most important thing is that you use microfibre gloves and microfibre clothes and a microfibre waffle dry cloth. These work a treat and really help reduce scratches and quicken the process.

Also read a how to guide on how to wash your car. I honestly thought that there was not much to it... but looked at all the how to guides on thsi site http://www.carcareproducts.com.au/ and was surprised at how much help it was with showing how to do the wash/polish/process. of course like all things it takes time and patience.

I also bought my products and got advice from here.

first things first if the swirls are that bad. Go to get the stage 3 detail done. then worry about how to maintain it. =D

Agreed re the initial investment may seem high, to buy some $200.00 or so of cloths and mitts and products, but it should last a couple of years of regular care for the car. In the end I I think approx $100.00 per year + water + elbow grease is cheap insurance to have a car that looks great and keep the paint protected. I neglected the paint on my last car and it was all blistered and peeling off in many areas I'm glad it broke down majorly before I had to try selling it!
