As far as I know, you can get light dependent resistors that increase or decrease their resistance with light
I guess tafe helped out with something finally haha, check it out benny :)

Just hooked up the inversion circuit, and that's all it is, swaps the dimming voltage from the negative to the positive, so yea... no idea where to go from here
Probably just gonna have to hook it up for one brightness
Could try a relay, with a PWM, so when the relay picks up it activates the PWM to dim the gauge
Either that or I try and get some info of an auto Leck

Cheers for the help guys, will uodate if I find anything else out

Is this gauge?

Iirc the inverter corrects the dash illumination voltage from the roller switch, which dims the incandescent bulb in the gauge :)

Maybe?

Fun led related article :)

That one, already LED

pls... diodes was one of my worst subjects at tafe, all this forward volt drop blah blah
yes I'm an electrician, and yea this has me 100% stumped
(I deal with building management systems and mechanical srrvices for big commercial buildings so, a lot of fiddly little relay and microprocessing crap)

I'm going to cheat in a way
Going to use a relay,
NO will be a normal uninterrupted 12v supply
NC I'll add a resistor (or PWM if I have to)
And connect the coil to the headlight switch

Headlights off = full voltage
Headlights on = resistored voltage = win?

I've got a video of what's currently happening but I can't upload it
If I get around to it I might chuck it up on YouTube and link you guys so you can actually see what's happening

The auto speed article uses a setup like that but adds a trimpot so the non dimmed brightness is variable:)

I think the voltage inverted tapped dash feed could be used in place of the potentiometer as well?

Mission: success... sort of

A relay brings in a trimpot to dim when the headlights come on, works a charm, can't dim it using the factory dimmer, but oh well, that's a compromise I had to make haha

Will upload some photos to suby club if anyone's interested (can't here)
