Cleaning Leather Seats etc

If you need to clean the seats first, I use either the Pelle leather cleaner ,available at large supermarkets or leather stores or as Lexus reccomends a mix of 1 part Softly or other liquid delicate laundry detergent to 6 parts water
Remember you must put a conditioner on after this as all the cleaning products strip the oils and as said before while you can use any leather cleaner ,the conditioner has to be car specific to deal with the UV

what's the best way to buff the seats after applying the conditioner? the conditioned gets stuck in the holes of the perforated leather. I start by poking a pin through the holes, but that's going to be tiring doing the whole car like that.

any ideas? can i leave the conditioner in the leather? probably not a good idea right?

You are applying too much of the product if you see it in the perforations...

You can leave most condiitoners on and it will just soak up ito the leather but ready the instructions on the product and use it according to that.

If you use a conditioner that isn't too thick then it won't plug up the holes. On previous cars I used to use Meguiars Gold Class leather conditioner however since it is pretty thick and gummy on the Liberty I found that it clogged up the holes. So instead I now use a Mothers product which isn't as thick and doesn't clog up the holes.

I used the meguiars wipes on the gtb, and nearly slid off the seat. Also got so much on my arse, I nearly fell of my chair at work. After a couple of weeks and a clean up, its back to normal. An Italian product called Colonil was recommended to me for cleaning and oiling by a leather specialist who refurbed the Porsche interior for me. Also have some Lexol spray for treating leather, which doesnt have the slippery effect that the Meguiars does.

Have tried Mothers (Cleaner & Conditioner, seperate bottles) and Meguiars.. The Meguiars was crap (IMHO) it did not have a long lasting effect and didn't seem to penetrate the oil at all.

Mothers on the other hand has always been brilliant, its fairly cheap and seems to last a long time.. I generally reapply once a month or so!

Agree about Mothers. Although I'd steer clear of using the cleaner frequently since it is abrasive (by definition a cleaner has to be abrasive) and I'm suspicious about how this would effect the leather long term if used frequently. Rather for cleaning simply vacuum first (with a brush attachment) and then wipe down with a damp cloth and then apply the conditioner.

Thats what I used originally. My refurb man recommended Lexol though - and he had bottles in the workshop - Bill Moussa in Richmond, Leather Creations. Family has been in business since 1948, does some great resto work, see some interesting cars at his place, like 50's Corvette last time.

I used meguiars rich leather foam on my seats... Coz its a foam any leftover residue that goes into the holes soon goes away and it smells great... My seats came up new with it...

I just use Lysol... Something I can buy in bulk from leather tanneries... It's great for cleaning & conditioning leather... But it's not specific for automotive leather... Generally speaking, those automotive leather cleaners have other chemicals to protect it from UV rays.
