Gen 5 How do I turn off engine without turning off radio?

Postby chainsaw1968 » Sat Apr 28, 2012 4:31 pm

Hi All, Recently upgraded from a Gen 4 GT to a Gen 5 GT.

Apart from the pathetic sat nav (my $95 tomtom is far better) One of the most annoying things is if i park the car & want to turn off the engine & keep listening to the radio i have to press the start button which shuts everything down then i have to press it again without foot on brake & wait for the sound system to boot up again.....very annoying!!!

Is there a simple way to turn off the engine without turning off the radio??

Give me a key start any day

Thanks in advance

Sell the Gen 5 and go back to the Gen 4? ;)

Won't help your situation, but write into Subaru and make them aware of it. It's these small things that they sometimes tweak with the following year's model. They can't fix things without input.
I was going to procrastinate, but I put it off...

My wife drives the GEN 4 & I prefer it over the Gen 5.

I'm amazed how Subaru got it so right with the GEN 4 yet so wrong with the GEN 5.

I still havent bonded with the uglyness of ny new car either!!

Or stick it to Subaru for messing up a great car by buying a different brand that isn't ugly or hard to live with.

Pretty sure if you park the car, electric brake on then you can press the on/off button with your foot OFF the brake it should kill the engine but leave all accessories on.

IE.
Foot brake, OFF
electric parking brake, ON
gear selector, Park
Built not bought, it's a way of life.

Tried that but didnt work.

Also tried with foot brake on but still no good.

Even with all the short comings of my MY10 i still think the LGT has the best value for money performance, handling & safety which are my main criteria. I'm just a little let down with the current offering.

Just hoping more hacks / mods are developed to overcome some of these annoying problems.

I only just figured it out last week.

Gear shift in D
Ebrake On
Hit ignition button.

Don't have your foot on the brake as it will turn the car off.
Car(s): Steel Silver MY10 GT Wagon + 1985 Subaru Sherpa

Mods: (GT) HKS Panel Filter. The HKS I put in the MY10 is the same filter I took out of my MY05 GT. So yes, they do fit. Custom leather heel pad to minimise carpet wear in the drivers footwell. Slotted front rotors. (Sherpa) 14'' 6 Spoke mags, Chrome Gear Shift (sick!), Alloy Pedals (sicker!), new positive and negative battery terminals, Alpine cda-9827 H/U, JBL GT 6x9's boxed and mounted (sickest!), Kicker DS650.2 component speakers mounted in the footwells in flibreglass pods, Alpine MRP-F200 4 channel amp (4x40wRMS), Rebadged with hektik chrome eBay badges, STi stickers for more powaaaa, "leather" handbrake boot, recarpetted with grey/black car carpet from Bunnings, sick Clarke Rubber boot mat, polished and waxed.

All good. It's only taken me since Sept 2010 to figure it out.

Surely that process is specified somewhere in the manual??
