The siren on the old liberty was bolted on the engine fire wall same side as the battery.

As Ric side let the alarm come to life and I am sure your ears should find it.

If you leave a window open, lock it with the remote, then reach in and manually unlock the car and open a door, does the alarm go off?
If yes, you should be able to find the siren pretty quickly :)
(If it's an aftermarket alarm, the alarm battery wll be inside the siren.)

The alarm is armed by the key fob when i lock ti, it make a little beep. (just a single beep)
i left a window open, locked it, reached in and opened it up. sure enough the alarm went off...

I've found the siren, given it a little tap, no noise. took it off the mounting bracket and opened it up, (left the wires connected though) had a look inside, there doesn't seem to be a battery anywhere in there. a few capacitors and a circuit board but nothing much else... nothing to identify the brand of alarm anyways...

Hey Steve if you only bought a couple of months ago you still still have statutory warranty through the dealer? If they won't play ball perhaps ask that they give you the previous owner's phone details instead (even though they are legally only allowed to give you the address).

Thats not a bad idea tek. The deal hasn't been real keen to help out much at all though.. was a pretty sh!thouse experience buying the car actually... but I just had to have it and there weren't that many 06STis around.

i've got the previous owners address, but no phone details... i might ring that dealer, or the origional subaru dealer on monday.

NSW
When you buy from a dealer, a car that's not more than 10 years old and hasn't travelled more than 160,000 km carries a three-month/5000 km statutory warranty. This doesn't apply to commercial vehicles.

There's a one-day cooling-off period once you've signed the purchase agreement, but only if you arrange credit with the dealer as well. If you withdraw from the deal within the cooling off period, the dealer can charge $250 or 2% of the car's value, whichever is less.

Private sellers have to provide the buyer with a certificate of roadworthiness ('pink slip') that's not more than 42 days old.

Title register and debt check: REVS, 13 32 20.
Motoring organisation: NRMA, 13 11 22.
Department of Fair Trading: 13 32 20.

There you go mate. If they give you any more stick just say you'll refer the matter to department of fair trading. The only decision you have to make is if you would trust them to fix your car if you have to go to such lengths (I would opt to nominate my own repairer at their cost).
