Evaporator H6 Liberty

Postby Mfaizi » Tue Nov 14, 2023 8:43 am

Hi all,

Please help.
My aircon refrigerant ran out and then I had it regassed and had the dye and new o-rings and then it ran out again with 24 hours.

When the air con technician looked for a leak under UV, he said there was no evidence of a leak but no pressure so they changed the valve on the low side and regassed and sure enough, empty within 24 hours.

They said its more than likely the evaporator. Rather than spend close to $1800 in labour (they said 12 hour job) I figured I could replace the evaporator.

I have dived into this previously in my 2004 GT 2.0L

Is this similar/do they share the same assembly?

Do you need to remove the hvac accessories + blower?

If the blower is removed theres a black box surrounding the evaporator but unsure how to remove/unclip.

If anyone can help please do...as you can imagine its much hotter and its not even summer!

Thanks all in advance

Pre facelift and Post Face Lift BL/BP Liberty evaporators are (slightly) different sizes.

Thanks BillyCorgi.

They are both pre-face lift.

That being said, do you have any tips on removing the evaporator or any guides on how to remove without ripping the dash apart?

Is there something I should find and replace while im there etc.

Thanks again!

There is a page in the factory service manual suggesting that the evaporator comes out from behind a cover after taking out the blower motor.
I assume this must be for a LHD car, because the pictures look reverse to what I see on my car.
So, contrary to what the service manual suggests, the dash does have to come out for this job (my car is 08/2007 post-facelift with climate control)
There are at least four different evaporators listed:
73523AG000 EVAPORATOR S.(20GT+25I+30R+30RA+30RB).RH +W.(20GT+25I+30R+30RA+30RB).RH +OBK.RH 03.2004 - 06.2005 (shows internal pipe joints)
73523AG010 (exists)
73523AG020 EVAPORATOR S.(25GT+25GTB) +S.(30R+30RB).RH +W.(25GT+25GTB) +W.(30R+30RB).RH +OBK.30R.RH 04.2007 - 08.2007 (liberty 08/2007, picture does not show internal joints)
73523AG030 (exists)
73523AG040 (does not exist)
None are available from partsouq, will post what I learn once the supposed correct one arrives from Denso
Also, to quote the advice from my aircon tech: "This thing is 17 years old, it is made of aluminium and is the wet part, subject to corrosion. So don't get a secondhand one, and don't think you can patch the hole, it will only pop somewhere else soon after"
